Deep foreboding and plenty of warnings in first Crimson Peak clip

Guillermo del Toro’s gothic romance Crimson Peak has released a first clip online, promising “a proper welcome” for Mia Wasikowska’s young protagonist, who is newly arrived at the towering Allerdale Hall. However, as far as Jessica Chastain is concerned, said welcome is going to be decidedly frosty.

Wasikowska plays a young American author who moves to England in the midst of a whirlwind romance with Tom Hiddleston’s Thomas Sharpe. Chastain plays his sister, Edith, with whom he shares the aforementioned mansion, and she wastes little time alluding to the “unsafe” parts of the property. Something tells us she’s not talking about dodgy wiring. Take a look at the new clip, below…

It’s only a brief sequence, but it’s enough to show off the striking visual tone del Toro has adopted, while also hinting at horrors ahead. The taps run red, do they? Of course they do… Co-starring Charlie Hunnam, Burn Gorman and Jim Beaver, Crimson Peak will open in the UK and US on October 16, 2016.
