V/H/S , the horror anthology that brought the scares at FrightFest 2012 , is getting an extremely limited VHS release.

Yup, the home video horror is getting an outing on the format it homages so reverently.

It makes sense too, as the found-footage set-up (a gang of crims film themselves as they raid a creepy old house, examining the videotapes they find there) is perfect for home viewing.

It’s sure to be a hit with horror fans craving a return to the videotapes they grew up watching, offering that nostalgic, sleazy quality that pristine DVDs and Blu-rays lack.

The logistics of such an exercise were far from easy, and by all accounts Momentum Pictures had to undertake considerable research to get big-box-sized tapes made up which include many nods to the glory days of rental stores.

Getting hold of these tapes won’t be easy though. Only 300 numbered copies have been manufactured and Momentum are promising a unique V/H/S event in January at which lucky fans will be able to get hold of them. Further details will emerge on www.totalfanhub.com/vhs/

We've had our hands on one of the big-box editions in the office, and can confirm that it's an extremely cool artefact:

UPDATE: Those looking to get their hands on one of the limited edition big-box copies of V/H/S , should head to the official fan hub for information on how to buy tickets for an exclusive V/H/S event in London on 16 January 2013.
