Game of Thrones season 8 will have "multiple" endings to try and trick the leakers

The Game of Thrones finale will not only be one of the biggest TV events of all time, it’ll also have multiple endings filmed for it. Game of Thrones season 7 had more leaks than a ship being suddenly boarded by Euron Greyjoy so measures are being put in place to ensure the end of Thrones doesn’t get spoiled.

“I know in Game of Thrones, the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens,” explains HBO president of original programming Casey Bloys (via Uproxx).

Bloys elaborates, “You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”

That begs the question, then, whether the cast and crew will only know their ending and the definitive denouement will be left up to the showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff at the very last minute.

It won’t be the first time Thrones has filmed extra scenes to trick fans. Kit Harington previously revealed that he filmed a whopping 15 hours of fake scenes to pull the wool over the eyes of the most dedicated Thrones lookers-on and leakers.

Bloys, though, firmly has his attentions set on just how the show will end – citing various controversial endings - rather than how many endings will be filmed, “Finales are tough. If you think about, Six Feet Under, well that was a pretty good finale. But if you think about Seinfeld, if you think about The Sopranos, if you think about Breaking Bad, everybody has an opinion about how a show should end.”

As long as it doesn’t end with a Coke advert then we’re golden.

Game of Thrones may be ending but that doesn’t mean it’s over yet. Be sure to read our Game of Thrones season 7 review and the best fan theories for Game of Thrones season 8.
