Blade Runner 2 fills out the cast with The Martian's Mackenzie Davis

Blade Runner 2 is so shrouded in secrecy that it's turning into a guessing game whenever a new actor joins the star-studded cast. Who they might play, and how that might slot into the plot - which we still don't know - is all part of the fun. We can now add Mackenzie Davis to that list, as THR reports that The Martian actress has signed up for a role in the eagerly-awaited sequel.

Davis has made a splash in plenty of different roles, from AMC's Halt And Catch Fire to indie romcoms like What If and That Awkward Moment. Her part in Blade Runner is being kept on the DL for the time being - surprise, surprise! - along with character details for most of the other actors. Apart from Harrison Ford, that is who's back as replicant hunter Rick Deckard. Joining the pair are Ryan Gosling, who refused to give us a hint of the plot at The Nice Guys premiere, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, and Ana De Armas.

The sequel is gearing up to start shooting this summer and is expected to take place decades after the original. Aside from a detailed opening description offered up by original director Ridley Scott, who's on board to produce the sequel, we're being kept in the dark. With Roger Deakins attached as cinematographer, at least we know it'll look amazing.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis, Ana de Armas and Harrison Ford, Blade Runner 2 will be released in cinemas on October 6, 2017.
