Alien: Covenant gets 4 new characters to kill horrifically

Alien: Covenant has consigned four new souls to die screaming and alone in space, according to Deadline Hollywood. Ok, it's possible that the characters played by Carmen Ejogo (Selma, The Purge: Anarchy), Jussie Smollett (Empire), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), and Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills) will live to see the end of the Prometheus sequel, but given that Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice and Steve Jobs) has already been cast in the lead role of Daniels, it's not a safe bet.

The story begins as a colony ship reaches a distant planet, seemingly inhabited only by David (Michael Fassbender), the android who hesitantly took to the stars with Dr. Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) at the end of Prometheus. That means most or all of the new actors will likely be residents of the colony ship. Hopefully this new crew will know better than to play around with phallic snake aliens.

Waterston plays the lead role of Daniels in Covenant, though Rapace's character may also briefly appear in the film, according to previous reports. Usually a brief appearance in an Alien movie entails either being blown up or made into an unwitting host for a chestburster; director Ridley Scott did say he's going for a "pretty hard" R rating this time around.

Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Demian Bichir, and Danny McBride, Alien: Covenant will open in the US on October 6, with a UK debut date still to be determined.
