Atlus currently has 'no plans' to release Catherine in North America

We've been following Atlus' erotic, neurotic thriller for months, but until today, we've had no official word on whether or not Catherine will be released outside of Japan. Now we do, and the answer (roughly paraphrased), is "Ehh, not right now." Our creepy dream sheep will be very sad creepy dream sheep tonight.

"Catherine is a Japan-only game and there are no plans for a NA release at this time. Sorry about that!" reads a statement issued to BeefJack.

But wait just an in-game day/night cycle - Catherine was developed for both the PS3 and 360, despite the 360's standing at the bottom of the Japanese console market (according to VGChartz, about 1.5M units compared to the PS3's 6.4M), and debuted in Japan at the top of the charts, beating Marvel vs. Capcom 3. That doesn't sound like a "Japan-only game" to us.

Granted, Catherine is story and dialog heavy, so localization would be a hefty task, but we're still not convinced that Atlus has no plans - not even a hint of an inkling of a plan - to bring the game westward. Maybe we're just fooling ourselves, but c'mon, for reals? It doesn't make sense, but we'll whine harder if we have to.
