Following the announcement of this year's Harvey Awards nominees, the committee has announced the 2022 Hall of Fame inductees. Four recipients will be honored at this year's ceremony during New York Comic Con: writer Neil Gaiman, writer and former Marvel editor-in-chief Roy Thomas, and cartoonists Gilbert Shelton and Marge Buell.
Gaiman is a multi-award-winning author and the creator of the iconic DC/Vertigo sci-fi/fantasy series The Sandman, which has been adapted for both a Netflix streaming series and an Audible drama.
Thomas was Stan Lee's first successor as editor-in-chief at Marvel Comics and co-created characters including Wolverine, Carol Danvers, Valkyrie, Ghost Rider, Ultron, Luke Cage, and Vision.
Shelton is an underground comix pioneer and an original member of ZAP Comix.
In addition to honoring its Hall of Fame inductees at the 34th annual awards ceremony, this year's Harvey Awards recognize dozens of nominees for excellence in comics.
Writer James Tynion IV has two Book of the Year nominations, and Filipe Melo and Juan Cavia's Ballad for Sophie has earned two nominations - Book of the Year and Best International Book. These are the only multiple nominees at this year's awards, which are named for MAD creator Harvey Kurtzman and presented by ReedPop, with a Steering Committee co-chaired by Nellie Kurtzman, John Lind, and Chip Mosher.
Harvey Awards nominees were selected by a curated committee of diverse industry voices, and select professionals have been preapproved to vote for the winners. Creators, publishing professionals, retailers, educators, librarians, and press who were not preapproved to vote can apply to do so at the Harvey Awards Apply to Vote page. Voting concludes September 2.
