Zelda: A Link Between Worlds trailer introduces Lorule

Link is in pretty high demand in this new The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds trailer, first shown today at New York Comic-Con. In the parallel kingdoms of Hyrule and Lorule, evil is at play.

And that evil looks (and laughs) like Kefka.

Seriously, listen to that laugh again at about 0:40 in. This villain is majorly biting on Final Fantasy VI's sociopathic-jester style.

Moving on, this is the first we've heard of Lorule and its Princess Zelda counterpart, Hilda. It seems to be a different place from the Dark World/Golden Realm of A Link to the Past, but maybe it's just been spruced up a bit since Link cleaned the place out?

We'll find out for ourselves when A Link Between Worlds hits 3DS on Nov. 22.

I know it's sacrilege to rename Link in a Zelda game, but in these cuter installments I can't help but add a simple y, making him "Linky". We're up all night to get Linky.

Damn that trailer was awesome, i like the fact that the villains theme uses that same jingle as Cole from Spirit Tracks
  • shawksta - October 11, 2013 2:28 p.m.

So it ISNT the Dark World? NICE
  • Vonter - October 11, 2013 6:53 p.m.

It most be a parallel universe were the Dark World took over the Light World. Calling it.
  • shawksta - October 11, 2013 7:23 p.m.

Who knows, it's anybodies guess. But the Dark World in Link to the Past was otherwise created by the antagonist and ganondorf, this games universe is something else entirely, like a new Kingdom Entirely.
  • Vonter - October 11, 2013 7:50 p.m.

Yeah, but what I'm saying is more like a Negaverse, this new kingdom has ended do to reverse outcomes of the previous game. I don't think they'll go as deep but will be cool to be a work in balance between the two realms.
  • shawksta - October 11, 2013 9:35 p.m.

Yeah you got a point, it will be interesting

I notice the logo have an upside-down triforce, not unlike the one on Demise's sword. Could this mean that lorule was the home of demose and ghirahim? Maybe lorule has its own triforce (weakness, foolishness, and fear?)

Anyone else cringe at the end when it said for "3DS & 2DS"?
  • J-Fid - October 11, 2013 2:16 p.m.

    Just a bit.
  • JarkayColt - October 11, 2013 1:34 p.m.

That was a nice trailer but..."Lorule"? Seriously? That's both lame and brilliant at the same time. XD
  • Vonter - October 11, 2013 6:55 p.m.

It reminds me of the Bean Kingdom being neighbor to the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • J-Fid - October 11, 2013 1:30 p.m.

So, Link's gone all throwback for the game, but I wonder why Zelda doesn't follow suit?
  • rainn'sgaydar - October 11, 2013 1:06 p.m.

Can't wait for this one, though the nonlinear progression still has me a little bit concerned.
  • shawksta - October 11, 2013 2:31 p.m.

Experimenting cant hurt and whose to say it wont have its limitations and linearness
  • rainn'sgaydar - October 11, 2013 4:39 p.m.

Well, I mean it CAN hurt, but I'm not saying it will. I'm glad they're playing with the formula, but I'm worried that not getting items in the dungeons (which the way I understood it, there won't be) will lessen some of the excitement of going through them. For me, part of the excitement of the new dungeon is wondering/guessing what the item will be and how it will be used for puzzle solving. I'm worried that some of that mystique will be lost in that way. But I'm not condemning it, necessarily. Still a day one buy for me since I'm of the opinion that Zelda is at it's best in 2D anyway. (Well, Wind Waker is best, but 2Ds are my preferred.)
  • shawksta - October 11, 2013 5:29 p.m.

I know what you mean, it's understandable. But I'm just saying, there will most likely be some forced areas where your going to a dungeon and inevitable finding an item in said dungeon. The trailer for example showed Link have to collect 3 things to get the Master Sword, most likely at that point of 3 dungeons is where the choice will come. Not the entire game being fully choice, but hey I guess we'll have to see how the game will play out.
  • rainn'sgaydar - October 12, 2013 9:41 a.m.

Yeah, it's all speculation. And I'm still very excited for it. I'm just trying to temper the hype for myself a little and that helped. I sincerely hope they make my concerns seem foolish!
