You can play as Robin in Batman: Arkham City according to Best Buy ad

A few months ago rumors started popping up that Batman’s sidekick and constant chum Robin would make an appearance in Arkham City. Though we had fun speculating on it, the rumors slowly faded away as new info was revealed on Riddler, Penguin and a playable Catwoman. Now, thanks to what seems to be a big mistake on the part of retailer Best Buy, it looks like Robin is almost certainly going to appear in the Bat-sequel, and be playable too.

Above: Thanks for catching this

Posted as part of the major US retailer’s online advertising, apparently pre-ordering the game at Best Buy grants you access to two “Challenge Maps” where you can play as Robin. The situation sounds similar to the PS3-exclusive Joker maps for Arkham Asylum, so perhaps the Boy Wonder won’t be playable in the main story, but it’d be strange if the team at Rocksteady designed Robin and not had him make an appearance in the campaign. Also, it’s unclear if this pre-order offer is exclusive to Best Buy, or if most major retailers will give this to those who buy the game early.

With a leak like this, we can expect one of two things to happen now. Either Best Buy removes the offer from their site and this isn’t announced until Comic Con at the earliest, or the publisher will realize the secret’s out and just confirm it in the next couple of days. Regardless, stay tuned to GamesRadar, same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!

Tim would indeed make the best choice. Damian might be hard to fit into the story. Considering Barbara Gordon is in the series as Oracle and not Batgirl Dick Grayson would have to be Nightwing by now. Jason is either dead in series or back as the Red Hood in Blackgate Prison.

Since Talia was pretty much confirmed by the voice actress, It would maybe make sense of Damian was in the game as Robin, there shouldn't be any argument over him being on the darker side, the kid cuts off peoples heads!! after that, Red Robin (AKA 3rd Robin - Tim Drake) would be good. he is a good middle ground between the first and second Robins. Dick Grayson has always been better and more fitting as Nightwing rather than the original Robin and Jason Todd was a sucky robin, but would be great as the Red Hood. personally, if there IS going to be Robin, I think Tim Drake would be the best choice.

Sorry didn't know Red Robin was Tim. Ignore the first sentence of the previous comment.
  • Kermit1970 - June 13, 2011 8:22 a.m.

I notice no one's mention Tim Drake. I've only seen him in "The Bane Arc" when Azrael became Batman. But Tim seems like a good Robin

will robin be in story mode, Will batman be able to stop the inmates from taking over gotham tune in same bat time same bat channel to find out
  • JBizFoShiz - June 13, 2011 5:54 a.m.

really? lots of robin hate here. saying "i wont enjoy the game if robin is in it!" is downright stupid. rocksteady can create a sprawling city, update the gameplay, introduce more villains as bosses, and pay a LOT of fan service to hardcore batman fans. robin is a huge part of the batman storyline. whether it be bruce having parallels to dick grayson losing his family, or him wanting to be a father figure to jason todd (which SHOULD be the robin in arkham city), there is nothing wrong with robin. period. stop hating. stop being a dumbass. stop discrediting rocksteady's hard work. p.s.: needs more alfred. never enough cool-under-fire british remarks for my liking.

keep him in the challenge maps and I'll be happy. Play as him in the story then we'll have a problem...

@TheDCSniper: Jason Todd who came back to life as the Murderous Vigilante The Red Hood? Yeah he'd actually suit the game well. @fetalspray: There's also a reason why there's almost always been a Robin for over 70 years. There's also a reason why there was an ongoing "Robin" comic that lasted almost Two hundred issues. There's also a reason while the Comic "Batman And Robin" was one of the highest selling series in the past three years. He's an important part of the mythos and saying he's lame and cheesy while somewhat warranted based on adaptions does not make him any less valid of a character.

I hope it's dead Robin from Death In The Family
  • DeathbyFira - June 12, 2011 11:53 p.m.

i kinda like to play as NightHawk its not robins fault he has to wear that getup and i agree with @Personamanxx he is more of a personalty then Bruce for shure but i also perfer to play as nightwing also he is a badass and would fit more of the story that Arkham asylum has but i always like all of batmans sidekicks batgirl being my favorite for certan reasons "cough cough redheads are hot cough cough"
  • fetalspray - June 12, 2011 11:33 p.m.

Robins lame, sorry but he totally kills the dark knight vibe he's too cheesey, theres a reason he wasn't in the Arkham Asylum comics.

Can't wait to deiced if I should buy from Gamestop and get Nightwing, Walmart and get Batgirl, Amazon and get Red Robin or Target and get Huntress.
  • SerpentineZERO - June 12, 2011 11:12 p.m.

If it's just challenge rooms, that's cool.
  • SausageLozenge - June 12, 2011 10:42 p.m.

Awesome! My interest in this game went up. I could give to flips about Batman.
  • GhostbustTyler - June 12, 2011 10:32 p.m.

Would have been more stoked if it was Nightwing, but I guess it's still kinda cool. Doesn't matter to me though, I never pre-order from Best Buy
  • Personamanxx - June 12, 2011 9:43 p.m.

@BrianDowns: Pants have been a part of the outfit since the 90's. You're good in that regard. No more pantless than Batman.
  • BrianDowns - June 12, 2011 9:38 p.m.

If i'm forced to play as Robin in Arkham City i'll be pissed off. I don't want to fight crime in my underpants.
  • Personamanxx - June 12, 2011 9:37 p.m.

@jackthemenace: Nightwing? Well if Robin makes an appearance I figure Nightwing has a good shot. Since Oracle was Batgirl around the same time that Nightwing was Robin it's safe to assume that this Robin in the game is not the one who grows up to be Nightwing (Dick Grayson). So there could totally be an appearance from Dick Grayson as Nightwing and one of the other Robins.
  • jackthemenace - June 12, 2011 9:27 p.m.

@Personamanxx- I've never been a DC fan, I'm more of a Marvel man Myself, but I do like the looks of the Arkham... Games. Don't think I'm a DC n00b (even though I am), But you reckon there's any chance of the OTHER flying-creature-type sidekick in there? I know I've forgotten his name, but I always liked him in the cartoons as a kid. I think he's the guy the original Robin went on to be later. Nighthawk or something?
