Ummm...hello?! Cloud Strife! Should have DEFINITELY been in the top TEN not just top 100. Not to mention Tidus from Final Fantasy 10.

Big Boss - MGS Cloud Strife - FFVII Herbert Wallace - Nightmare Creatures II Jake Armitage - Shadowrun Alucard - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Commander Shepard - Mass Effect Terra Branford - FFVI

The number one hero is Big Boss (MGS). No doubt about it!

Here is going top be an odd one, I'd have to say Vincent Brooks from Catherine. He really does represent the modern person, an aging male who is fearful of going down a path he is not quite ready for. A lot can be learned from his journey, and I believe he is one of the greatest characters of this generation.

Cloud Strife is missing, that's right, but nobody needs Tidus. He's a massive douche. Good list all in all, but seriously, the order is just wrong. Raiden rank 3, Mario rank 4? You better be kidding. Also legendary characters like Chun-Li, Pac Man, etc. need to have a much higher ranking.

Where is Zack Fair? For the love of GOD? I played every game in this list. And i can easily say Zack Fair is my favorite hero of all time. And Tidus must take place. You never played a single Final Fantasy right ? Just admit it...
  • naser-al-salem - October 23, 2012 3:23 a.m.

Jin or Feng from Tekken Series ?
  • AzraelSith - October 23, 2012 5:49 a.m.

I know he's been listed already, but I must push Alucard even further. He's the main boss's(Dracula) son for cryin' out loud, AND he's been around since '89 and fighting his way through monsterous castles to beat his dad in several game titles at that!
  • AzraelSith - October 23, 2012 6:18 a.m.

Also, Zero from the Mega-Man X series. He was a true hero!
  • Hig1134 - October 23, 2012 7:18 a.m.

How about 'X' from the Megaman X series? He's the one who did all the battling!
  • nintendo365 - October 23, 2012 6:34 a.m.

Wait, no Simon or Gabriel Belmont or at least Richter or Jonathan Morris? Id even take Alucard, really Id take ANY Castlevania protag! Even Soma Cruz, and he was Dracula... And what about Luigi- hes a Ghostbuster. Also, just spitballing here, dafuq is Sigfried of SoulCalibur? Yeah, he released Nightmare into the world, but he also keeps pwning him every 3 to 5 years. If Bomberman made it, Sigfried can too.

I didn't expect Guybrush Threepwood to make the list, let alone be in the top 10! That's awesome, as he's one of my favorite characters. Also, for an overlooked character, you could include Beat from Jet Grind Radio.

A character that should be on this list that most people wouldn't know of is Okabe Rintarou the protagonist from the game Steins;Gate, he definitely deserves to be put on this list. In the game he and his friends invent a machine that allows them to send text messages to the past that allows them to change the course of history, the first of which resulted in a character (his future love interest) he had seen lying dead in a pool of blood coming back to life, in the game he is the only known person who is able to retain his memories when the past is changed meaning he may remember things that nobody else remembers because technically they never happened, later on they further add to their time machine in a way that allows them to send their memories to their past selves, what they call a time leap. Shortly after making this breakthrough an organisation called SERN (based off the real world organisation CERN) raid their headquarters and kill one of his friends, after seeing this Okabe manages to time leap back to try to save her only to watch her die again differently, this same event happens many many times, later in the story he learns that one of his new friends is a time traveller by the name John Titor (based on the John Titor that claimed to be a time traveller back in the year 2000), this is when he learns that in the future WWIII was caused by the race for the first time machine and later that he is the only one that can prevent it, save the 5.3 billion lives lost and stop SERN from having control of the world, but still he cares more about saving the life of his friend which requires him to reverse all changes he has made in time, including the one that saved the life of his now love interest, eventually he makes the decision to let her die to save his friend and the world from WWIII, after he believes he has set things right the time traveller John Titor returns saying that the only way to save the world is to save his love interests life, he fails, and after failing for the first time he is told to look at his phone where he had received a message from his future self explaining how to save the world, which meant that he would have to save her but allow his past self to believe she was dead, he succeeds by warding off her murderer after being stabbed himself, tasering her and covering her in his own blood, which he obtains by shoving his whole hand into his stab wound, thus saving the world from WWIII. This is why Okabe Rintarou should be on this list, keep in mind this game is actually a visual novel so the events actually vary but this is how the true route of the game is played out.

I joined so that I could say this: Ike from Fire Emblem. He starts out as a fledgling mercenary, and ends up getting wrapped up in a war that eventually embroils the entire continent. Along the way, his father is killed right in front of his eyes, and the responsibility of leading a mercenary company - who guards his homeland's last remaining hope for repatriation - is thrust upon him right then and there. Since his homeland was too weak to fight back against the nation invading them, they had to seek aid from the most powerful nation on the continent. After doing a series of missions for the Empress, which actually end up uncovering corruption within the government and helping to mend relations between the two dominant races of the continent, an army is put together to help retake his homeland: an army he becomes commander of. After taking over the country that invaded his (that the king pretty much abandoned) and learning a bit about the tragic story of what happened his long-dead mother, as well as the secret of an evil god that would be released upon the world should it be embroiled in war, he proceeds to march on his own land. After winning many battles and wielding a blessed sword to defeat his father's murderer (who could only be defeated with a sword such as the one Ike used), he marched onto the capitol. There, he faced off against whom was possibly the most powerful warrior on the continent and king of the invading country (whom also had armor that couldn't be damaged by anything other than a blessed weapon, as well as one of the most powerful weapons) and defeated him...only for him to come right back, fully restored and stronger than ever, having touched a relic that drives one to madness. In spite of this, he still manages to be soundly defeated a second time, thus resulting in Ike's homeland being liberated, and an international disaster averted. And after all of this, all he wants to do is return to his humble life of leading a mercenary company. And don't even get me started on what he does in the next game.
