Robotic engineer builds Portal 2 Personality Core replicas

On a scale of one to "holy crap these are awesome," robotic engineer Chris Myles's replica Portal 2 Personality Cores fall somewhere between "damn I want one now" and "seriously, I would kick a puppy for these - just say the word." Granted, this rating system needs some fine-tuning, but you try watching Myles's 'making-of' video without geeking out...

The models are based on the Personality Cores which appear in the latter half of Portal 2 to help players bring down the final baddie [name withheld for the 4% of players who may not have finished it yet]. They include the loopy Space Core, the ever-helpful Fact Core, and Rick the Adventure Core (voiced to perfection by Nolan North).

Myles is a self-professed nerd with uncanny engineering skillz. His previous works include a Companion Rubik's Cube, a full-sized Iron Man Arc Reactor, a working Assassin's Creed Hidden Blade (non-lethal), and Mass Effect 2 cos-play costumes which have reportedly drawn crowds at events like PAX. These projects and more can be found on his YouTube page.

Sadly, Myles isn't planning on making doubles of these particular models. Of course, that could change tomorrow if Valve stepped in to pick up production costs. Ahem, I repeat: that could change tomorrow if Valve decided to pick up productions costs...

Now, someone just has to make a GLaDOS, and maybe set them all up like a mobile, and you could have a Portal-themed baby room. Just a suggestion...seeing as they're all about "ornament" size...

Well the developers commentary did say that all the aspects of the personality cores are mechanicly possible, with exception of the movable eyelids if you notice they were static here, so its not surprising that this would come out here. But still... COOL!!!!

Pretty sweet! Thanks for the post, GR! I'm drooling to have one of those. This guy should get in touch with Valve and say, "start selling these and give me money," so that all the fans can get in on the personality core luvin'. I'd definitely get all the colours!

  • ZenPhoenix - May 17, 2011 5:39 p.m.

Yes, Valve, start making these pronto. I would be there day one. Agree with dphoenix, though. Would be even better if they were animated.
  • hellodesdemona - May 17, 2011 5:27 p.m.

I watched his Youtube channel. I now officially heart this man.
  • dphoenix192 - May 17, 2011 4:42 p.m.

Damn, I thought it would be working, I guess its cool, but I would really like a working one that could move on its own.
  • inkyspot - May 17, 2011 4:28 p.m.
