Pre-order L.A. Noire from GameStop, get a bonus mystery

Shares

Rockstar Games isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to pre-order planning for upcoming sleuth ‘em up, L.A. Noire. Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart all have their own unique prizes for customers who pre-order the game before its May release. But it looks like GameStop will have the best pre-order bonus of all. Pre-order L.A. Noire from the retail giant - everyone loves to hate - and you’ll receive The Naked City vice case, an extra mystery that finds you investigating the suspicious suicide of a fashion model…

Above: “The Naked City” vice case trailer. This extra mystery will be an exclusive bonus for those who pre-order L.A. Noire from GameStop

The Naked City vice case certainly sounds more compelling than the “A Slip of the Tongue” traffic case that you’ll get for pre-ordering from Wal-Mart. But maybe that’s just because we have yet to see a slick trailer promoting the Wal-Mart pre-order prize from the game’s Traffic Desk.

In either case, pre-order or no, L.A. Noire’s mystery will begin on May 17 in North America, while European audiences will see a release on May 20.

@db1331: Actually the pre-order stuff isn't that great. Borderlands, Too Human, L4D2, Fable 3, Red Dead Redemption, AVP all had pre-order armors, Skins, weapons, etc that I ordered and all lasted for the first part (maybe 10 minutes for Too Human) of the game and was then replaced by better items. They are all superficial and don't affect the core gameplay. What you should do is what I do, buy the games then sell the preorder crap, I got $50 off the Harlequin outfit alone. Also, what's this about AVP and public outcry? That game was a solid 7 or 8 out of 10.

Ah thanks for that TISAM I shall check it out, but ultimately I agree totally with db, I like the EA way of doing things, get free content when you buy the game with a code in the box, but able to buy it later if you bought second hand, that's the way forward if publisher want us to buy brand new rather than second hand, not foce us to choose a store in such a fashion.

Pre-order bonuses and DLC need to die. Pre-ordering is just stupid nowadays. The last game that I was unable to get a copy of at launch was Super Mario 64. The last game I pre-ordered was Majora's Mask. Gaming has become so big an popular that there is no way these companies won't make sure there is a copy of their game on the shelf for everyone that wants to give them $60 for it. Pre-order bonuses are a way for companies to get you to commit to their game BEFORE seeing reviews or public outcry on release (See AvP). What's wrong with GameStop? They offer you extra in-game items if you buy a new copy of the game from them. In most cases, these items actually rob you of your gaming experience. That fancy sword, shield, and armor you get in your bags at the very start of the game? You will never find anything better. Don't even bother looking. Don't visit any shops or do any side quests for upgrades. Don't bother opening that chest in the bottom of that dungeon. There's no point. Just plow through the game with your purposefully overpowered pre-order bonuses. That way you can finish the game much faster. Because we play games to beat them and get a trophy/achievement now, not just for the fun of playing them, right? And once you finish that game a few days faster than you otherwise would have, GameStop will buy the game back from you for $10. Then they will turn around and sell it for $50. Rinse and repeat.

Same here as Ironarm. Never had any problems with them in the past, and I always go to them where I am before I go anywhere else. Maybe it's just the locations. I'm in a college town, so everyone who works there is a student and awesome.

How about those of us that can't preorder as we live outside the US, I guess I never get to play this case despite the fact I am paying the same as everyone else? preorder bonuses really annoy me.

Gamestop just gets really annoying. They hardly ever give you the original box for used games. They replaced the UMD casing on all the used PSP games they sell. They have weird return policies. They're always trying to sell me a pro card or whatever and spend like 5 dollars to preorder stuff. And then they overprice things. So, I can get a used copy of mass effect without the box art. Or I can order Mass Effect on amazon for less, brand new with the box art and free shipping. Hmm whose trying to rip me off?

I like Gamestop. I've never had any problems with them in the past. I'm a Pro member and get amazing deals every time I walk in there. The staff is very friendly and they never hassle me about anything. I guess I've never understood people's disdain for Gamestop due to me being biased for them or something. Oh well, I'm going to pre order from Gamstop. That bonus case looks awesome!
