A Windows XP-compatible version of the original Command & Conquer RTS game which kick-started the series has been released as a free download.
Available through the official C&C website, EA says the freebie is in celebration of the series' 12th anniversary.
The download is "the same version included with the collector's pack Command & Conquer: The First Decade," the publisher has explained.
In related news, Ubisoft has released PC games Far Cry, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Rayman Raving Rabbids for free - which has been made possible via in-game advertising - but currently it appears these are only playable by US residents. An account for Ubi.com is also required.
