Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters
has released a new red-band trailer, covered head to toe in splatter and looking every bit as daft as one might expect.
The film picks up some fifteen years after the events of the fairytale, with the titular brother-sister pairing having recovered from their childhood ordeal in order to carve a career out of witch-hunting.
When children start disappearing from a small village, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) are recruited by the mayor to sort things out. However, it soon becomes clear that there is more to the problem than meets the eye, with Famke Janssen’s sorceress hell-bent on taking the two hunters out of the equation for good.

The new footage certainly looks more even than the first batch we saw, with lashings of OTT gore lending a fairground feel to proceedings. That script still clunks a bit in places, but at least there’s Jeremy Renner’s considerable charisma to help smooth things over.
Directed by Tommy Wirkola and co-starring Peter Stormare, Thomas Mann and Zoe Bell, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters will open in the UK on 15 March 2013.
