New Alien game coming from Total War developer

A new, big-budget Alien game is on its way from Sega's UK-based studio, The Creative Assembly. The Total War developer launched a press conference today announcing it is expanding its staff size and opening a new, 10,000 square foot facility in West Sussex in preparation for its work on a "console core game" based on Fox's iconic sci-fi franchise.

The game - which is not to be confused with Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines – is being developed by the team of Total War veterans responsible for the 2008 hack-and-slasher Viking: Battle For Asgard. No release date or platforms were confirmed for the unnamed title, but The Creative Assembly did hint to Gamesindustry.biz that it had not yet taken next-gen consoles off the table.

The Creative Assembly's press event was held at its main offices in Horsham, West Sussex, where it was also joined by government MP Ed Vaizey. After being treated to a sneak peak at the game's early build, the honorable MP declared, "Very close to where we are standing there are geniuses at work developing a game on 20th Century Fox's Alien...The graphics are amazing, the concept is amazing."

Amazing graphics and concept? This may be too good to be true. Unfortunately, The Creative Assembly isn't planning to show its Alien game at E3, so we'll just have to take Mr.Vaisey's exclusive preview on faith.

I suggest something along the lines of Left 4 Dead but with Aliens. 4, maybe 6 players go through missions with different goals (rescue a captured marine, destroy a nest, etc) and randomly generated enemies. the enemies come in all shapes and sizes and react accordingly (scout aliens are weaker, if they come arcoss you and your troupe of merry men, they'll turn tail and run for it, warriors won't think twice abut ripping you apart). toss in a good story, different marine/alien factions, some bosses, and a versus mode and bang, game done. idk why they think it's so hard to make a GOOD Alien game. the monsters were scary, the story was good, and the marines were a team. so scary enemies+good story+heavy emphasis on teamwork=a great Alien game.

One-FISH- "I don't know how many other's played Aliens Vs. Predator 2, but it needs to be THAT--With better graphics. That's it. The game was developed by Fox Interactive, of all developers" It was deveoped by Monolith, the folks who created FEAR and NOLF ;)

Looking forward to this for two reasons: 1) Clearly this statement was meant to build the first buzz in the press & public, so if there was another franchise involved, they would have at least hinted to it. Something along the lines of, "... the concept is amazing. I can't really talk about it, but we're collaborating with some pretty exciting people." 2) Anyone who played through the last game knows that the only 2 redeeming parts of it were the scary Marine levels where the Aliens were slowly hunting you, and, if you managed to get used to the shitty controls, how much of a badass you could be in multiplayer as the Alien. I'm actually pretty optimistic about this. Probably a little naive, but oh well.

@One-Fish- Reading your comment, i could swear i was reading my own thoughts posted on the page. I thought i was the only person who remembered AvP2 being the best multi-player game of the 90's ('99, right?). @BeefSupreme If it's anything like CoD, i'll shoot myself in the foot. T_T and then you, for releasing the idea on these accursed interwebz.

An MP said that it has amazing graphics and amazing concept? That automatically means it probably isn't good, I trust MP's as much as I trust bankers and Peter Molyneux (although I like Peter Molyneux unlike the other 2 groups). I love Creative Assembly and the Total War series but that's what they're best at and I'm wary of them switching genres as their other games like Viking and Spartan weren't exactly the on the same level as Total War games.

@One-Fish At first I thought you were talking about the most recent AvP, and I was about to flame the shit out of you.

I don't know how many other's played Aliens Vs. Predator 2, but it needs to be THAT--With better graphics. That's it. The game was developed by Fox Interactive, of all developers, and somehow turned out AWESOME. It had a team-based multiplayer system that was way ahead of it's time (4 teams/factions fighting each other in the same multiplayer map) as well as a class system. This game was what I was hoping the latest Aliens Vs. Predator reboot would be, but fell horribly short of what I was expecting. My group still occasionally breaks it out at a LAN party and it is still crazy fun. I disagree with NotBraze on no more games based on AvP, just not the AvP movie-storyline. The collision of the two franchises was a great thing to happen, I just don't know how SEGA dropped the ball on the last game so badly. (The movies are IMO, total crap.) Anyone agree?

I really wish they would take Aliens: Colonial Marines off the shelf and bring it out. I just want a COD type game where I shoot Aliens. Puh-puh-please.

In my opinion, an Alien game, in order to be good, would need to take on a tone similar to BioShock. BioShock had the ability to scare the crap out of you when it needed to, but also provide really fun, fast paced action as well. Incidentally the same can be used to describe James Cameron's Aliens. Ridley Scott's original Alien was definitely the best film, but that tone would be very difficult to translate into a good game, I think James Cameron's sequel is the better bet for basing a game around. Just please, for the love of god, no more games based off of AVP, and certainly none based off of Alien: Resurrection.

Wait...is this good or bad? Someone tell me.
