Metroid II, Mario Land 2, Mega Man and more coming to 3DS eShop this year

As part of the Gamescom news blast, Nintendo Europe has announced Game Boy classics Metroid II: Return of Samus and Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins will arrive on its 3DS eShop before the end of the year. Also along for the ride are Mega Man: Dr Wily's Revenge and Bionic Commando. Nintendo of America hasn't confirmed this release schedule, but seeing as the US/UK eShops are more or less identical when it comes to Virtual Console releases, we assume we'll all have access to these titles soon.

Above: Spoiler! The Metroid II ending features a bikini-clad Samus

I'm thrilled to hear Metroid II is coming - as I've said before, it's probably the most pivotal game in the series, kicking off events that fuel Super Metroid, Fusion and Other M. The original black and white version was a strong game lost on a blurry, hard to see screen, so the 3DS version will probably end up as the "best" way to play. Still, I'd love to see Nintendo dig up the colorized (and canceled) Metroid II DX for the eShop... well that or just remake the whole thing, which is totally worth the effort considering how important this game is to the Metroid canon.

I hope they remake the original Mega Man for 3D Classics and nothing more. I greatly dislike MM2 for the simple reason it overshadow the orginal, which is ultimately superior in my opinion.

Sweet! I'll be sure to pick both of those up when they come out. Metroid 2 was always my favorite. I've been hoping for a remake ever since they came out with Zero Mission.

At least they're updating the shop again, to my knowledge it's been a dead zone for the past couple of weeks.

Gargoyle's Quest is suppose to be coming next Thursday, which I can't wait to get. Hoping Demon's Crest is added on Wii's VC. Also, Bionic Commando for Game Boy is coming, yet the NES version is a no-go for Nintendo? Whatever.

God to think of the time I spent squinting my eyes in order to seen the horrible GB screen. These are all fantastic game that might be able to entice me to buy a 3DS. Actually I think I may buy one now that Gargoyle's Quest was announced.

SML2 scared the shit out of me as a kid. That second (or first) princess just randomly turns into a fly and plays really creepy music as it jumps off. *shudder*

SML2, eh? so wario land must be close, i loved that one : ) SML2 was pretty basic, but for the time, wario land ( SML3) striked me as very complex for handheld platformer - and it had more endings than many good RPG's, depending on how many secret stuff you found out during playthrough, good times : )

I'll grab it, even though I still have the GB cartridge of Metroid 2.

"Above: Spoiler! The Metroid II ending features a bikini-clad Samus" Well shit, no sense in playing it now. I just wanted to see dem pixel titties. To be serious though, Metroid II is one of those games I never played but wish I had. If I ever do get a 3DS, I will snag it.

These games need to be released for the 3DS in America now! I loved every single one of them, especially Mario Land 2, and I would buy these immediately lol

Sweet, more Metroid. I can't wait to play that mess of a game, that used to be amazing, again.

I loved Super Mario Land 2 as a kid, and it was one of those games that had a sense of accomplishment with completion. That said I probably wouldn't play it again for any reason other than nostalgia. I'm hoping a few GBA titles start coming like Minish Cap, never played it but have heard good things.
