Mass Effect 3's Multiplayer “Resurgence” DLC is coming very soon, for free

Well, this has been quite the saga. Remember when Mass Effect 3's Metacritic Problem first reared its problematically homophobic head? Or that somewhat heated discussion (ahem) over the Mass Effect 3 ending, why it is fine and/or the worst thing ever, etc, etc? And even as Mass Effect 3's free Extended Cut DLC has been announced, the game's publisher wins a somewhat rigged-seeming anti-award that many are attributing largely to ME3's ending and paid DLC. Well, fine, here's news of a free multiplayer DLC update to go along with the free single-player revision already announced. Can we finally agree that Mass Effect 3 is actually a pretty good deal?

 

The Mass Effect 3 Resurgence pack, coming to consoles and Origin April 10 (4/11 in Europe), will add two new maps, Firebases Condor and Hydra, to the game's multiplayer line-up. There's also six new multiplayer characters (Asari Justicar Adept, Krogan Battlemaster Vanguard, Batarian Soldier, Batarian Sentinel, Geth Engineer and Geth Infiltrator), three new unlockable weapons (Striker Assault Rifle, Kishock Harpoon Gun and Geth Plasma SMG) and new consumable powerups for you to choose from. Come on, surely someone at EA/Bioware deserves an unironic cupcake or two by now.

    I'll send them my unironic cupcake when the extended cut shows to live up to the previous expectations that Mass Effect has given us. Until then I can't help but look at this whole ordeal with major skepticism.

    But to stay on topic with the rest of this post, free multiplayer DLC is always nice. They could've charged us $5 a map like some other company...

    I don't think anyone ever said ME3 sucked (at lease not in my case), I just said that the ending was lazy. With all the backlash they got, this is probably the reason for some of this Free DLC. We know this would not happen if things was different. I do appeciate free stuff and the fact that they are trying to bring closure for free. Hey it free right, and the multiplayer is pretty fun. Bring on the Geth Infiltrator.

    It would be impossible to satisfy everyone even with the extended ending, no matter how hard they try. Not everyone hates the ending.

    Wow, this is pretty awesome! The new maps look great, and I've been itching to play as a geth ever since I met Legion.

    Massive backlash by gamers? Check A planned DLC turned free to try to appease them? Check Gaming websites told to spin story as a victory? Check Gamers still getting content ripped from original purchase? Check Chances that EA will hide their lies better next time? 100% I feel like I can't even bother reading the "news" your and other websites present. They are glorified press releases by the companies themselves. How about a commentary on how these DLC packs would have been $5-15 a pop had gamers not made a huge deal about all these shortcomings and lies? Where is that story? BoA and EA are both tales of greedy businessmen buying themselves just enough good press to stay profitable. BoA doesn't care anymore about the "America" in their names as EA does about the "Arts" in theirs. Its all about the $$.

    I can't help but feel they're gonna butcher the ending even more with this. And also I could care less bout MP DLC I didn't buy this game for multiplayer.

    Assuming Krogan Vanguard has the class power of Biotic Charge, I'm suddenly very worried for the enemy, to have a giant krogan charge at you at extremely high speeds, if the enemy isn't simply obliterated on every charge I call shenanigans

    Holy shit, first news of the extended ending, and now this? Well, you can't say Bioware isn't being a good sport ^^ Also, Geth Sentinel? FUCK YES. That is all And a harpoon gun sounds like a badass thing to use, here's hoping it will be usable in SP too...? (And even if it isn't, still badass.)

    A GAME REPORT BY SOMEONE WITH NO TECHNICAL TRAINING! Something that was left out of this article was the limited time offer aspect of this free deal, that's right you must purchase it if you wait to long because it is only free to April 2014 so get it while it lasts LOL!!! On a more serious note I would say that the 2 year limited offer is a bodacious statement of intent. I think this is the big-wigs saying that "WE MADE THIS GREAT GAME WITH A GREAT MULTI-PLAYER AND WE ARE HERE TO STAY; THAT'S RIGHT WE PLAN TO BE HERE AND PROFITABLE FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS MOVE OVER COD HALO AND GEARS THERE IS A NEW KID IN ONLINE TOWN AND ITS NAME IS MASS EFFECT!!!" except more subtly... also thats the big-wigs hypothetical words not mine.
