Mass Effect 2's PlayStation 3 bonus goodies revealed

Excited about a PS3 port of Mass Effect 2? So are we, and in ways we’re not quite comfortable telling you about. But what’s BioWare going to pack in there with the game? Sit back and we’ll tell you.

Above: We can’t get enough of this video. Neither should you

According to an interview with BioWare honcho Ray Muzyka via VG247, the PS3 version of the game will come packed in with DLC that’s already available for the 360 original, a retooled version of the Cerberus Network to inform you of new goodies to download, and a new introduction sequence to get the Sony faithful caught up on what’s crackin’ across the Mass Effect universe.

“So even though it’s Mass Effect 2 specifically, we’re making sure there’s a nice introduction experience that provides the back-story and the things that have happened up to that point in the universe, and makes it a really seamless introduction.”

What could this new intro be, then? Muzyka didn’t spill it. “It’ll be something that provides a good introduction,” he says, “and provides a lot of the back-story and introduces you well to the story-arc, and kind of makes you feel like you’re part of it all.”

So what do you think? A new, controllable flashback sequence? A long voice-over showing a map of the galaxy? Pillow talk between Garrus and a female Shepard? Don’t worry, we can go on and make it weirder if you want.

That's complete bullshit, the 360 gamers had pay money for the DLCs, and just for this to happen!?. You guys should have thought about this from the start....

I'm thinking a controllable flashback sequence of the first game's main story changing events would be the most logical way of making the Mass Effect 2 plot that players want. They'd need to have the Rachni Queen decision, the Wrex decision, the Ashley/Kaidan decision, the Council decision and the romance decision.

Let's just hope it's not a textual introduction. I've never played Mass Effect before but I have heard of it's overuse of text if you look for it. I'm just messing, I'm really pumped to play this game.

Love Mass Effect 2! I wonder if it would be different playing it on a PS3. Hhhhmmmmm, I've been meaning to buy a PS3 for a while noww........

The more people to play this game the better. That said I'm probably going to watch the new stuff on youtube in the future because I love Mass Effect lol.

Yep, they're going to allow PS3 only gamers to make some of the more important choices via an interactive resume of ME1 and I think it's easily the best, non dual game on one disc, answer to their conundrum. No mess, nice and clean and with all the DLC in the hope of majing up for THAT wait. Seems fair to me-and I've bought everything ME related(some of it for PC AND 360!)they ever released-including the shonky as hell DLC for ME1(seriously, HOW did they get it SO wrong? Had those working on the DLC never heard of the game or were they allowed to play none of it while working on the DLC?). Good news for gamers, imho, as I'm guessing it's sold as many 360s as it was going to as a series by now anyway.

i already beat the game once on a friends 360 and i plan to get it on my ps3

I would prefer pillow talk between male Shepard and Garrus. Let the bromance commence!
  • Bonesqaw - August 18, 2010 10:44 p.m.

I think for recapping the first game, one should be able to pick the first's outcome like you picked your origin at the beginning of ME1.

PS3 already has a s*** load of exclusives. Now they get Mass Effect. XBox 360 owners should get Uncharted 2.

I am not a PS3 owner but i am glad that the PS3 is getting this game, it is a great game that i don't think should be restricted to just one console.

I wonder if the interactive beginning could be a DLC version of those books that connect Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. If so I would totally pay something close to $30 for a prequel expansion.

I don't know anything about this, so I'll wait for the reviews. However, if I'm correct in saying that Mass Effect is the one where loads of decisions are made (thank you, GR features!), then this introduction may well be a portion of, if not the entire, first game. I mean, why not? It shouldn't take much time porting over an already completed game, and the Blu-Ray can quite easily fit it all in. It's perfectly possible, I think.

Just wrong. This news makes me want to throw up.

Hey kids, look. An answer to all of the dumb questions in the previous article that started with "Without Mass Effect 1, what's the point?" All of the DLC AND an introductory cinematic explaining Shepard's back-story as the Normandy's commander. In other words, PS3 owners will be getting an approximately $75 game (around $63, counting tax, for the game and around $10 of the DLC) for only $60 as well as a re-tooled Cerberus Network. That's the point. Besides, even if someone doesn't know what the storyline of Mass Effect 1 was about, they can always just go here to catch up: http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Storyline
  • Denrok - August 18, 2010 8:10 p.m.

The new introduction is most likely (And hopefully) interactive and in some way allows the player to edit what happened during the events of the first game to make up for the lack of an import save feature. Regardless though I'm most excited for the prospect of getting all the DLC on the disc.
  • lovinmyps3 - August 18, 2010 8:06 p.m.

I've already played the series and love it to death, but I'm really glad PS3 owners are getting the chance to play it as well. It's an amazing game! It's just to bad they don't get the first one also.
  • VictorRay - August 18, 2010 8:03 p.m.

    I can't flippin wait!!!
  • WickedSid - August 18, 2010 7:59 p.m.

I want it weirder! There's so much potential!
  • litrock - August 18, 2010 7:58 p.m.

What about Wrex? If they go with default Shepard for ME2, Wrex didn't make it. That'd be the worst thing in the history of bad things, considering Wrex is the best part of that universe.
