Sorry for double posting, but here's further evidence to back up Viewtiful Joe's white alt
  • newwavebossanova - February 11, 2011 4:33 a.m.

To back up Henry, I agree with Tron's blue look being a color swap. Look at the servbot in that very same picture and how it has a green body with orange hands like Tron's default colors. Also, seconding other people on Viewtiful Joe's white outfit being Jet Black's second costume. Check out the eyes, it's the same purplish red as the black color. Also that black one is probably more Jet Black than Alastor since the cape is colored maroon like Jet Black's cape. Finally, Chun-Li's outfits are specifically alternate colors from the console version Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike; those colors weren't in the arcade version. This page shows them; you can see they're the Start+Forward and Start+Roundhouse colors:

C.Viper's middle costume is almost EXACTLY like Rufus, if you compare colors/the dreadful pony tail on that fat lard. Surprised you guys didn't notice that.

Sorry for the double post; my computer screwed up on me.
  • Ichthus5 - February 11, 2011 3:36 a.m.

I think the red/blue suit for Zero is a reference to his deceased love interest, Iris. Thoughts?
  • GR_HenryGilbert - February 11, 2011 3:35 a.m.

@avantguardian I gotta disagree you on the Tron. It's totally a Servebot. Look at the shoulders, a different shade of blue just like a Servebot, and the same goes for the yellow hands.
  • Ichthus5 - February 11, 2011 3:33 a.m.

I think Zero's red and blue costume with the dark brown hair might just be a reference to his deceased love interest, Iris, from MMX4. Anyone wanna back me up?..
  • Personamanxx - February 11, 2011 3:27 a.m.

appreciate how some of the Alt outfits for the Marvels basically lets you play as other characters. It's not exactly the same thing but it adds to the joy for some charcters,

they should have put shulkie in her regular fantastic four outfit, but i guess it's not fantastic four anymore. you think that's why they went with this colour variant eh?
  • TheRedPill - February 11, 2011 2:47 a.m.

In the the early megaman x series there was always a cheat code for megaman's ultimate armor and for Zero there was always a cheat code for his black armor. I think that might be where they got the black color from.

These are the same costumes with different textures. You'd think they'd do more crazy stuff, like in SSFIV. The good stuff is extra content on the disc that we'll have to pay to unlock, I bet.
  • gdubbs359 - February 11, 2011 2:37 a.m.

Chun-Li's alt should have been alpha and the yellow variant of her original.
  • foxyexplosion - February 11, 2011 2:34 a.m.

Great article henry, I love the amount of knowledge you knew about the comic heroes just because you do.
  • avantguardian - February 11, 2011 2:32 a.m.

oh, and the brown hair! sorry for the redundancy in the last post... and the triple post... etc... also, just needs to be said, good job with the spam...
  • GhostbustTyler - February 11, 2011 2:30 a.m.

I'm sure the black Viewtiful Joe costume is suppose to resemble his "rival" Alister, and the white is the second form of Emperor Jet Black the final boss of VJ 2
  • avantguardian - February 11, 2011 2:28 a.m.

oh, and i think tron's third alternate is a shout out to mega man (who, aside fom strider, is this game's most glaring omission), not the servbots...the two shades of blue with yellow trim (that represents the power meter on his blaster, "cough"nerd"cough")... also, the inclusion of a reference to roll would support this theory as well...
  • Rubberducky - February 11, 2011 2:22 a.m.

Still don't know if I want this game or not. Would've liked to see Juggernaut and Carnage in there, but Taskmaster looks spiffy
  • StriderHoang - February 11, 2011 2:14 a.m.

Anyone point out C. Viper yet? Capcom Unity forums has been running a series on the alt colors and points out C. Viper's alts are references to her follow new warriors, Fuerte, Rufus, and Abel
  • EroticInvisibleMan - February 11, 2011 2:12 a.m.

C Vipers 2nd costume is Rufus from SF4 her 3rd is also the colour scheme of someone from SF4, but I can't remember who (Someone on /v/ did this alt costumes thing with what they all reference a few weeks back).
