Lost in Skyrim? PC mod gives you full 3D view of the map

The Elder Scrolls games are famous for the hugeness of their maps, and they can be equally confounding as they are impressive. Though the Skyrim has its own way of helping you reach your destination in its world, PC players now have access to a more interesting tool. Just download a simple mod and you can get a very useful 3D, Google-style view of the whole map.

The snazzy mod is available here, so for those playing the game on their desktop it seems like a simple must have add-on. If this is what the modder community can come up with in less than a week, what’ll the really crazy stuff look like? See what you console gamers are missing?

Whoa! Good find Henry! I might have to install this, but I kind of what to at least finish the main storyline with the tools the developers gave me.

Very cool mod. I haven't had any issues with the map myself, but I may consider this mod in the future.

There is no such thing as being "lost" in Skyrim. There is only exploration.

It's a shame you can't toggle from a 2D map to a 3D map, because while the 3D looks awesome it doesn't work very good.

With that being said, the game's current map is kinda's nice to look at, but it's impossible to find your path just by looking at could use a bit more zooming in.

Hm, maybe a low-poly version of the map that can only be viewed from the top?Because I don't think that we need to be able to actually see the ENTIRE map from every possible angle: it's a bit like cheating, and, as others have said, it massively increases the loading times.

This seems pretty nice, but I've actually been super impressed with the map detail - you can see pretty much everything in the world map anyway, especially if you zoom in. So I'm happy with that one for now.

It doesn't actually work. <_< It only shows the cells that are both next to you and already loaded.
  • TheRandomFool - November 15, 2011 7:54 p.m.

I liked the concept, but when I installed, it increases load times by about 300%, so it works, but isn't very practical for the rest of the game.

Oh Bethesda really needs to find a way to transport mods to console. I heard talk in the Minecraft guy and Todd Howard that he might bring Skyrim to PS Vita and find a way for mods to make it to console. PLEASE BE TRUE PLEASE BE TRUE

That is absolutely amazing. Definitely giving it a try.

I personally like the huge, open world, and navigating it on your own. I'll pass on it, but I am sure it will be of use.

I agree with you,but it's sometimes hard to find your way to something, unless you use that power thing in which my brother told me about
