Lightning and Kain to star in new Dissidia game for PSP

Square Enix has just announced a sequel for Dissidia: Final Fantasy. Titled ‘Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy,’ the sequel will include Lightning (from Final Fantasy XIII) and Kain (from Final Fantasy IV) as playable characters in the free-for-all brawl.


Above: So far, Lightning and Kain are the only new characters confirmed. Is there anyone else you’d like to see?

The news surfaced in the latest issue of Shonen Jump. Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy is scheduled for a 2011 release in Japan – and we think it’s a pretty safe bet that it will be confirmed for release in other regions soon.

    It occured to me that I would much prefer to see a new Dissidia game on the PS3/360 rather than PSP. It could have bigger 4 player scraps like in Smash Bros rather than simple 1 on 1 fights. Something tells me it would be better suited to a home console anyway.
    Anyhoo, adding to my original list of wanted characters I'm wanting Lulu and Kimahri (FFX) Faris (FFV) Fran, Vossler, Basch and Reddas (FFXII) Cid Highwind, Yuffie and Vincent (FFVII) and Fang and Sazh (FFXIII), and I've already mentioned this in my previous post but it needs to be said again...Celes (FFVI).

    Y'know what Squeenix? Just put in every bloody FF character. Another good reason to bring the game to PS3 and 360. THAT would be real fan service.

    vivi,auron,kihmari,shadow,sabin,cid highwind,vincent,freya,amarant,seifer, enough said. some special guest characters would be nice though, like ramza from ff tactics,or sora from kindom hearts,

    But Kain? Damn, I think I'll need to get this. I skipped on Dissidia, one of the reasons being the overly popular roster. I wanted Cid, Kain, Locke and Auron instead of Cloud, Cecil, Terra, and Tidus.

    Paine would be pretty cool too, though naturally they'd use Yuna or Rikku to represent X-2 instead. Oh well.

    i think that riku from ff x-2 would be cool, i would kinda like to see snow from 13, yuffie or tifa from 7, zack from 7. .......oh and mabye arith so once she dies every one can cry agin a bout her death

    Auron and Vincent. Those two characters are more awesome than all of the FF's combined (total non hyperbole). Cid Highwind would be cool too.

    The whole title is Dissidia 012 [duodecim]: Final Fantasy. And the Dissidia franchise started on PSP and will remain there. It'd be like going from portable Pokemon games to console-only portable games. I don't know if you've played Dissidia to the extent I have, but it just wouldn't be the same. Also, I doubt any Cids will be playable, as Dissidia already has a Cid, Cid of the Lufaine. More than one Cid in the game would cause identity crises and world implosion.

    And finally, duodecim means 12 in Latin. I believe it to mean that this is the 12th war of the gods (Cosmos and Chaos).

    Thank you Squeenix! I was hoping we'd get a sequel.

    I- Uh...
    II- Uh...
    III- Luneth, maybe...? Then Xande, probably.
    V- Gilgamesh. We need him. Then maybe we could get that turtle Exdeath is always yelling about.
    VI- Celes, no question about it. No idea for a villain.
    VII- Zack'd be nice, but he'd just be a Cloud clone. I vote Cid. Then Jenova. Like Cloud of Darkness, but not lame.
    VIII- Zell, a martial artist'd be a blast. Booyaka! Mebbe NORG after that.
    IX- Garnet. Her mom'd be a hoot.
    X- Throwing around balls as Wakka might be fun. Seymour after that, I guess. Maybe Sin.
    XI- Uh...
    XII- Balthier. Guns'd be the best thing ever. And then Vossler.

    I actually liked Light and hated fang :s But for X while yuna is most likely I'd prefer Lulu or Auron.

    Square's currently on a Latin binge from hell, if you'll notice, most noticeably with Versus XIII, wherein many of the characters have Latin names for "being deep"'s sake. The entire XIII arc is called the "Fabula Nova Crystallis", or the "New Tale of the Crystals". "Duodecim" is Latin for "twelve", so...take that as you will. I'd just like to say that I dislike abusing Latin just to seem deep. As someone who knows a good deal of Latin, it just seems cheap and unoriginal.
