Gears of War 3 Horde Command Pack on hold due to “technical issue”

Update: It's off hold! The DLC is out now.

Gears of War 3 fans awaiting the game's first batch of DLC will have to wait, as Epic Games has confirmed its Horde Command Pack has been “temporarily delayed” beyond its original November 1st release date.

Last night, the studio's community manager Will “raczilla” Kinsler confirmed the delay on Epic's forums, writing, ”The scheduled Horde Command Pack release for Gears of War 3 is temporarily delayed due to a technical issue. We apologize to those of you who are anxiously awaiting to play. We know this is disappointing news as we’ve seen a lot of posts today showing excitement for this content. We have folks working around the clock to resolve this issue ASAP so you can all play and enjoy the Command Pack.”

Naturally, the news was taken by some as a sign of the impending apocalypse, and the forum thread has since expanded to over 130 pages of accusations, fan feuds, and general internetz shenanigans. In response to the feedback this morning, raczilla added: “I totally get that people are frustrated and that it's tough to wait. I just don't want you frustrated with each other!”

When it does come out (and it will people, chillax), the add-on will bring three new maps, and a handful of fortification upgrades, characters, and weapons. Epic's next expansion, RAAM's Shadow, is still on track for its December 13th debut, and is being touted as being the largest DLC release in the studio's history.

Maybe they should have informed Microsoft, because on the main tabs of Microsoft, it shows that both the DLC for Season Pass holders of Forza 4 and Gears of War 3 are available today and have instructions on how to download them. Yet neither title has the DLC available for download. The DLC for Forza 4 is available in the regular marketplace and you can buy it for 540 microsoft points, but there is no link through the game as there is supposed to be, and there has been no word from Microsoft or Turn 10 as to when this issue will be fixed.

You know I bet the season pass holders are a little ticked and well they payed up front so yeah sorta justifies the outcry. I'm still debating the season pass though, I just know they'll have DLC on sale for the holidays.

I've been looking forward to this, but in all honesty I forgot that it was out today. What with me deep in Arkham City, some friends playing BF3, and me and two friends playing CoD4 as well, I've lost track of Gears slightly. That said, I still play for at least an hour or two every weekend for the events and have great fun. And yeah however long it takes to make it perfect, that's fine with me.

Hey, if it gives me extra time to get the funds for it, I'm totally cool with a few days, or even weeks, delay for the release. Anything that gives the Dev's time to finish it and polish it up nicely, and give us the best possible experience from the DLC.
