Far Cry 3 release date gets a three month delay

One of the most highly anticipated games of the year, Ubisoft's Far Cry 3, will not be making its shipping date of September 4, 2012. Instead, Ubisoft announced today that the title has been delayed by three months to December 4, 2012.

"We're taking more time to create the best possible gameplay experience," said Ubisoft's Dan Hay, a producer on FC3, in a press release. "Far Cry 3 is a huge offering and we want every element of this insane, action-packed adventure to be of the highest possible quality for the players."

As delays go, this is a fairly short one. Three months will go by in the blink of an eye. Meanwhile, Fall titles like Borderlands 2 and Dishonored will be in much better shape now that one of the biggest games of the year has moved out of their release window. After all, that's how the original Borderlands managed to gain popularity.

Well, it may be delayed, but at least its still coming out BEFORE christmas, unlike all those titles opting for a Jan-2013 release...

At least this gives me time to actually save up for it! I still need to get a 3DS XL and Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance. Plus some other stuff non-gaming related.

Well that's just great, yet another awesome game that is pushed back. Still, it's nice to hear that they're trying to refine the experience rather than ship a slightly broken game. I can deal with that.

I seem to recall Far Cry 2 having a lot of issues at launch, so this extra development time ought to do FC3 some good as far as coming out of the gate without any major bugs. Then again most developers deal with bugs after the game is out nowadays, so they're probably just taking extra time for something inconsequential.

Not the best news, but still works out all right for me, since Far Cry 3 is one of only two really worthwhile/preordered games for 2012 (the other one being Borderlands 2 since everything interesting has been pushed back to '13 (Yes, it's a very slow/empty year for me...)). Anyway, it's a good way to balance my spendings for the holiday season.

That's code word for we don't want to compete with call of duty.

No its code for "we need to give assasins creed some breathing room"
  • Tjwoods18 - June 25, 2012 8:53 p.m.

Well that too, but you must realize that fall linup's are always cluttered so I see their reasoning behind it.
  • CitizenWolfie - June 26, 2012 3:19 a.m.

Well, AC3 is due out in November so it only gives it four weeks worth of breathing room. The original Farcry September release would have given AC3 more breathing room.

I guess I'm a bit upset that it's getting delayed, it was one of my most anticipated games after all, BUT, now it's coming out exactly one day after my birthday, so that's a pretty huge plus :D And as the article itself says, I'll be able to enjoy Borderlands 2 and Dishonored without juggling too many different games at once :D

Most likely addressing the complaints of going from a realistic/minimalistic HUD view to the crowded/unrealistic HUD view they currently have. At least that is what I hope for, I really enjoyed Far Cry's 2 sense of realism.
  • MercurialForce - June 25, 2012 8:52 p.m.

Does that sense of realism include the real-time updating paper map?

I'm happy with this delay, I would never have enough money to buy Far Cry 3 at the beginning of September (Lots of School Fees) but now that it's been pushed to December I know I can afford it. Plus, it's nice to see that the developers are taking their time to make this the best Far Cry possible. I hope it turns out well.
