Fallout news teased by Three Dog voice actor

Erik Todd Dellums says the Galaxy News Radio DJ may appear again

Three Dog, that howling voice in the quiet desolation of Fallout 3's Capital Wasteland, may not have barked his last. Voice actor Erik Todd Dellums tweeted a brief tease yesterday that the Galaxy News Radio DJ could appear in the post-apocalypse again.

"To all my #Fallout3 and #ThreeDog fans: There may be more of the Dog coming! Fingers crossed!" Dellums said, and later tweeted that he was "given permission to release that tease."

Seeing as the DLC release window has come and gone for Fallout 3 and New Vegas, we can't imagine he's talking about an add-on pack. Bethesda hasn't announced plans for Fallout 4 yet, though its release is likely more a question of when and not if.

Of course, the tease could be for anything featuring the boisterous DJ--a comic book, a special edition compilation of Fallout 3 and New Vegas, maybe a new line of dog food. We've reached out to Bethesda for comment on Dellums' tweets and will update this story with any response.

The tease makes me think that Bethesda is planning to release a compilation of FO3 and NV with all of their respective DLC add-ons, but... those comments about there being "more of the Dog coming" and "fingers crossed" makes me wonder if there really is a Fallout 4 on the way. And if there is, who's gonna develop it? Bethesda Game Studios? Obsidian? Maybe someone else entirely?

Fallout 4 will either be set shortly after Fallout 3 and Three Dog's extended the range of GNR, Three Dog's moved to Boston, Three Dog's uploaded himself into a computer ala President Eden to disc jockey forever and Fallout 4's set years after New Vegas or Three Dog's an android like Harkness and has returned to The Institute in Boston. Or it's an HD re-release of Fallout 3 with extra dialogue that'd make the game crash faster, harder and with even larger save files

I know Obsidian won't be doing Fallout 4, but they should. They did every single thing better then in Fallout 3 and New Vegas actually felt like a Fallout game and had a coherent story with branching storylines.

I disagree, Bethesda are by far the more talented developer and Fallout 4 will be much better under their reign. New Vegas was boring and too buggy.

Well, considering New Vegas has factions (Fallout 3 does not), branching storylines (Fallout 3 has one linear and nonsensical storyline), more then 4x the quests Fallout 3 has, companion quests (Fallout 3 has none), DLC that doesn't rape the lore and is actually worth the money (Point Lookout is the only good Fallout 3 DLC, to be fair Honest Hearts kind of sucks), doesn't rape the lore in general (hurr D.C. Brotherhood of Steel chapter) an actual final battle with well written dialogue (compare Colonel Autumn to Legate Lanius) well written dialogue in general, and New Vegas has an actual Fallout feel, 3 was so obsessed with being an post-apocalypse game they forgot the bombs fell only 200 fucking years ago and not yesterday I would HARDLY say New Vegas is boring. But it is pretty buggy, I will give that to you. Except that's entirely Bethesda's fault because it's their shitty engine and they forced the release date (but the game still ended up better then 3.)

I liked both and New Vegas certainly had the better plot, but the game map of Fallout 3 was way more interesting for me. Blown up national monuments were way more interesting than the dinosaur next to a hotel and a Vegas strip that felt empty and bored me. Also, my Fallout 3 bug count is two crashes, but New Vegas had 5 crashes, loss of items, disappearance of vital characters for quests, and some other annoying crap (even though I put WAY more time in FO3). Also, Old World Blues was the only NV DLC I loved, and Point Lookout was better than it for me (and I did like Broken Steel, especially since it let you keep playing past the ending, which I wish NV did). At the end of the day though, FO3 had a world I wanted to explore (and i did, with over 250 hours in total). I only liked NV enough to finish the main quests (which were better than FO3's, I'll admit), since the rest of the world was mostly uninteresting to me.

that linear storyline was about the only thing I had problems with. You could be as evil as you want but you couldn't side with the Enclave for example. Other than that, Fallout 3 was good I thought. Because Washington was directly targetted in the war it's been largely inhospitable so it's going to be more post-apocalyptic than New Vegas which wasn't directly hit by the bombs. New Vegas feels more spread out around the map but both are excellent games (minus the bugs) in their own rights.

"New Vegas was boring and too buggy." Cause we all know Bethesda never releases buggy games. That said, my ideal would be Beth developing the game with Obsidian doing the story and heavily contributing. I loved both games, but NV just a bit more due to the overall story. Beth has proved they can get the general design and atmosphere down perfectly, but can't write a Fallout game to save their lives, while Obsidian is the opposite. Both of them working together would be the best of both worlds for me.

Hopefully a Bethesda developed Fallout again, and not Obsidian. Obsidian did a few things right, but New Vegas was boring.

Bethesda themselves haven't got anything announced barring Elder Scrolls Online, so Fallout 4 seems likely. Absolutely can't wait, I just hope they've learned a few things about how to make companions interesting from Obsidian (like they didn't do in Skyrim).

Seems almost a shame. If 3Dog's in it, it's pretty likely to be set in Washington again, rather than somewhere new. Unless, maybe, it's an HD collection?
  • D0CCON - January 10, 2013 5:26 p.m.

There are rumors that 4 will be in Boston. If that's true, they could say that 3Dog managed to boost the signal far enough to reach Boston and my lack of radio knowledge would only leave me to think that that's unlikely, but possible for all I know.

"Bethesda hasn't announced plans for Fallout 4 yet, though its release is likely more a question of if and not when." You mean, when and not if? Unless there's something I'm missing, I think there's certainly going to be a Fallout 4 sometime down the road.

    D'oh, good catch!
