Exclusive Halo Anniversary pre-order bonuses revealed

Microsoft has announced the pre-order bonuses for its upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and they might be must haves if you're a big enough fan. The first digital goodie is a Grunt Funeral Skull which, when equipped, causes dead grunts to explode like plasma grenades. Given that grunts tend to travel in large packs, expect a large increase in carnage, cartoony screaming and blue explosions. Here's a look at the Skull in action:

The second bonus is some custom threads for your Xbox Live Avatar, specifically some Space Marine armor you might recognize. That's right, now you can dress your big headed Avatar up as the Chief himself. Laugh mightily as your XBL friends gaze with envy upon your glowing majesty, covered in the hallowed threads of John-117:

Above: Majesty of Master Chief armor not to scale

Despite the announcement, there's been no talk of specific retailers that are participating in this pre-order exclusive, so make sure to double check with your preferred store before committing. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary arrives November 15 and will sell for the relatively cheap $39.99

I have that Crisis 2 armor and I think it looks cool. Not sure about this game, depends on my moneys.
  • Spybreak8 - July 19, 2011 6:19 a.m.

Nice although I don't like avatar gear that covers up my avatar face, you loose your identity when you done a once will become a generic space suite.

Im pretty excited for the new Terminals that are added into the game. As someone who eats up Halo fiction, that may be the biggest thing im looking forward to.

I guess getting something rather than nothing is alright, but I for one am skipping this game until maybe 10 years from now when it drops to like $10. Why are people excited for this game? Nostalgia mostly but there's some good points in this article. I think GamesRadar should weigh into the whole "remaking of older games" opinion as well. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus would be worth it since it's two games with a better framerate.

Really thinking about getting this now, the Grunt Funeral Skull looks hilarious.
  • BurntToShreds - July 18, 2011 10:27 p.m.

Wow, I am impressed. They even retained the old physics!

@Redeater I don't think another console generation would be much of a change. Even in this video it still looked very much like the original Halo's graphics. Yeah, it looks a bit sharper, but it still has some of the original "grime" to it.
  • D0CCON - July 18, 2011 10:16 p.m.

I'm excited because the original Halo couldn't be played online and this one will be (maybe with armor abilities?). Anyways, I'll be waiting for Christmas to get this. I already earned Halo armor and helmets from the games and I'm guessing that skull will be available to everybody since preorder bonuses tend to just unlock something immediately instead of making you find or earn items.

@Plan10FromOuterSpace/HankVenture Fair enough. I really loved Halo when it first came out but I burnt out around the time Halo 3 was released. I played ODST and Reach but they didn't connect with me. I guess I just wish they would have waited a couple years and released this with their next system because I would have loved to have this game running with Crysis level graphics.

The skull ruins the whole concept of the skulls, collectables you somehow want and will only make your life more miserable Nevertheless, it looks fun to use it.
  • Robx - July 18, 2011 9:46 p.m.

Will this one be coming on PC like the original?
  • HankVenture - July 18, 2011 9:44 p.m.

@redeater, I can understand it seeming pointless if your not a fan or something, but for me I love me some halo and I try to own all their books and I do own all their games, it's just a way to experience the game with a sorta new breath. Yeah we may know the entire plot and the levels but it's been improved gameplay wise (i think) and graphics. plus MULTIPLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
  • HankVenture - July 18, 2011 9:41 p.m.

MAN CMON it's his fucking anniversary and your going to give me bullshit like that. I mean yeah the Skull thing would be nice and the suit is cool but for FUCKS SAKE.. IT'S HIS ANNIVERSARY.. make it worth it you cock fuckers, don't just give me a skull and avatar suit especially when there is already the grunt Bday party skull and like 20+ spartan outfits on the marketplace. God damnit I hate that I love Halo!!
  • Defguru7777 - July 18, 2011 9:36 p.m.

Don't forget that it's only forty dollars. That's something to be excited about.
  • Plan10FromOuterSpace - July 18, 2011 9:22 p.m.

@jackthemenace, better than grunt birthday party? really, what could possibly be better than kids crying in joy and falling confetti every-time you get a head-shot? @Redeater, personally Im excited for this game because Halo was the first fps I ever played, and possibly my favorite game ever, the chance to play with improved graphics and HD is a big pull, the new hidden collectibles like terminals are another and the ability to manipulate campaign using skulls, there's achievements of course, co-op over xbox live and the chance to finally play combat evolved maps online. Theres so many reasons, mainly though I just cant wait to re-live this amazing game
  • Kethmach - July 18, 2011 9:18 p.m.

Already put the money down. This is just a cool post-pre-perk! I like the little Avatar armor! Very cool!
  • codystovall - July 18, 2011 9:15 p.m.

    I miss cheat codes.....
  • Redeater - July 18, 2011 9:07 p.m.

Actually cj12297 brings up a good point. I'm not trying to "troll" but why is everyone so excited for this? This just seems like Xbox Halo with some upgraded graphics. I remember getting very excited for Super Mario All Stars for the SNES but that had Mario 1, 2, 3, lost levels and sometimes SMB 4. All with upgraded graphics and it was a game you COULDN'T play on your current console. Maybe it's just me but I don't understand the hype behind this when you can save yourself money and pop in the original Halo which still looks pretty damned good. Multiplayer I guess?
  • Enclave84 - July 18, 2011 9:07 p.m.

Awesome, I'll probably just get it to get that awesome skull....probably should never melee grunts again though.... Also, glad to see their not just using the stuff from reach, I get nostalgic seeing the old assault rifle instead of the new one.
  • jackthemenace - July 18, 2011 9:04 p.m.

@Redeater- Really? I always preferred the 360 Avatars. They're not brilliant, but the pS3 avatars seem to try and look really realistic, and fall short of the mark, leaving them looking quite hideous. That Skull would come in bloody useful, I have to admit. And it's a damn-sight better than the Grunt Birthday Skull. And I love the way they perfectly recreate the original look of Master Chief for the avatar item. By making it look horribly blocky.
