Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma confirmed for SSFIV Arcade Edition

Confirming last week’s rumblings that Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma would be included in Arcade Editon (via an unconfirmed leaked achievements list), Capcom has released a new trailer for SSFIV Arcade Edition featuring both of the uber-chracters. While there’s no gameplay footage of them in action, there’s profile art of them at the end of the trailer. The trailer still refers to the character roster as having 37 characters though, so don’t expect these two to be playable.

The trailer also has some footage of new characters Yun and Yang in action, showing off their "Genei-jin" Super attacks that allow for extended combos. While we're a little hesitant about why we needed two more combo-centric characters with dive kicks, they seem loyal to their Street Fighter 3 roots. The trailer also details some arcade only features, including some sort of synch function with your iPhone that tracks your win/loss record and provides special challenges (like getting a perfect) for you to attempt during live matches. While you'd have to be pretty darn confident to saunter into a Japanese arcade and try to tick off your challenge checklist while simultaneously beating some of the world's best players, it's a neat touch that adds the Achievement/Trophy dangling carrot effect to an arcade game. As expected, the game also includes new titles and ranks to customize your gamer card with.

While it's unlikely Capcom will bring over SSFIV Arcade Edition cabinets to America's dwindling arcade scene (especially these fancy new ones that synch with your iPhone), it's a no-brainer that it's coming to consoles despite Producer Yoshinori Ono's endless Twitter trolling.

    @CandieJester- I'm tired of that excuse. "Well just don't buy it then", that is completely not the point. I DO have an issue with ALL DLC because yes, the game was $40 bucks, then you buy new costumes for another $10, then new characters for another $15. Now my math may be wrong but that's NOW $65 dollars... exactly what it would be at retail. As a consumer, you are constantly getting ripped off by all of the DLC. Especially for a game like this, it is almost a necessity to buy it because of the new balancing. @MichaelGrimm- Dude, I'm as hardcore for this series as the next as someone playing in arcade tourneys back in the early 90s. Just because you're a fan of something doesn't mean you instantly become ignorant to the cost involved. To stay current with the SF series costs serious amounts of money, time and effort and THIS just makes things worse. I love new characters, but stop milking the damn franchise. BTW-I'm Geminiman82 so it is me responding

    I was content with Yun and Yang so no complaints from me. Buuuut...why did id have to be the "evil" version of two characters we already have?
  • GamesRadarMichaelGrimm - December 4, 2010 12:47 a.m.

    @CandiedJester Agree. Given how much die-hard SFIV players like myself play the game, I've got no problem ponying up a couple bucks every month or two for costumes/characters etc. Factor in the balance tweaks that EVERY character in the game is getting for AE and it's already justified itself in my book.

    Any reason to make me wanna play SSFIV again is a good one

    Fuck you Capcom, gimme some free stuff for once you nickel and diming Scrooge Mcduck complex having Mr.Krabs looking motherfuckers.

    I, for one, am excited. I will definitely be getting this.

    Are you going to complain about all other game DLC then as well? How about you just don't pay for it if you don't want it. You don't know if they planned on adding more characters when they completed the game. Maybe they decided after it was already released. Besides the game is cheaper than a regular game already anyway, so basically you wouldn't be spending more on it than you would on any other new game. I don't see what there is to complain about.

    I'm getting sick and tired of this shit... when SSFIV came out, why not add the rest of these characters THEN? You know for sure that none of these add-ons are going to be free. I'm sick and tired of it and it makes me want to stop playing this friggin series.
  • GamesRadarMichaelGrimm - December 3, 2010 8:46 p.m.

    @NathanXplosion Ono, king of trolls.
  • Chevapravatdumrong - December 3, 2010 8:39 p.m.

    As much as I hate that they may be adding more Gi wearers new characters are new characters as long as they're free.
  • NathanXplosion - December 3, 2010 8:32 p.m.

    Yun and Yang interest me a little but if there is no R. Mika, Ono can go fuck himself.

    What, no Cyber Akuma? ps, First! pps, Hi Maguma!
