E3 2010: PlayStation 3 gets “best console version” of Portal 2

Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve announced that the PlayStation 3 will get the “best console version” of Portal 2 at Sony's press conference. The PS3 version of Portal 2 will be compatible with Steamworks, which will include features such as auto updates, community features, and downloadable content. The announcement was quickly followed by the release of an exciting new Portal 2 trailer.

"When the PlayStation 3 was introduced, I was the one of the platform's biggest critics," said Gabe Newell in an official statement released by Valve. "However, Sony Computer Entertainment has proved that the PlayStation 3 is the most open platform of all the current generation consoles and has worked extremely hard to make the platform the most desirable for consumers and developers. As such, we are delighted to announce Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 and believe the Steamworks support included will make it the best console version of the game," he continues.

Sorry Mackly, that never happened. Ever. What game were you playing, because there is no cloning in Portal.
  • Mackly - June 16, 2010 12:54 p.m.

*SPOILER AHEAD* Dude I want portal 2 so bad. Uh-oh GLaDoS is back. I find it funny she calls you a monster in the trailer. It's because if you play portal, you kill her and find out she cloned you.

  • shyfonzie - June 16, 2010 3:43 a.m.

My first exposure to Portal was on Ps3,the loading was terrible. I'm very excited to hear this.
  • RebornKusabi - June 16, 2010 2:51 a.m.

I liked Portal. LIKED, not loved, so this is okay news but I do agree with other peoples sentiments on this site, other sites and separate forums: Half Life 2: Episode 3 or Half-Life 3 would have been a better announcement than Portal 2. Of course, unless I'm mistaken which I'm pretty sure I am, there's still a day or two left of E3... so this still isn't it ; )
  • WaffleLeech - June 16, 2010 2:32 a.m.

I'm getting the verification message too, regardles, it seems a bit stupid to announce that the PS3 version of Portal 2 will be the best considering it will be multi-platform. Although, I am glad they're getting it, maybe now they'll shut up.
  • Jacko415 - June 16, 2010 2:07 a.m.

soooo that was the big surpise? portal 2 coming to ps3? WHO GIVES A SHIT?! why is that such a big deal? WHERE THE FUCK IS EPISODE 3? please tell me that they havent shown us the REAL surprise yet... cuz im hating Valve more and more each day...
  • QWERTYCommander - June 16, 2010 1:49 a.m.

Anyone getting this "verification required" shit?
  • ScruffMoney - June 16, 2010 1:40 a.m.

okay, I've gotta say it. This was a triumph. I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction. Aperture Science We do what we must because we can. For the good of all of us. Except the ones who are dead. But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake. And the Science gets done. And you make a neat gun. For the people who are still alive. I'm not even angry. I'm being so sincere right now. Even though you broke my heart. And killed me. And tore me to pieces. And threw every piece into a fire. As they burned it hurt because I was so happy for you! Now these points of data make a beautiful line. And we're out of beta. We're releasing on time. So I'm GLaD. I got burned. Think of all the things we learned for the people who are still alive. Go ahead and leave me. I think I prefer to stay inside. Maybe you'll find someone else to help you. Maybe Black Mesa THAT WAS A JOKE. HAHA. FAT CHANCE. Anyway, this cake is great. It's so delicious and moist. Look at me still talking when there's Science to do. When I look out there, it makes me GLaD I'm not you. I've experiments to run. There is research to be done. On the people who are still alive. And believe me I am still alive. I'm doing Science and I'm still alive. I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive. While you're dying I'll be still alive. And when you're dead I will be still alive.

What paradox did we step into?
  • thor0997 - June 16, 2010 1:03 a.m.

A big bag with a $ on it. Im supprised that he didnt say the 360, since you know, it is more PC like. But cash does make mens tongues wag to whatever feed them.
  • InstantTitKill - June 16, 2010 12:53 a.m.

That's a weird weird thing for Gabe to say since he makes it sound Sony has magically changed the ps3 into a platform he want's to work with... By doing absolutely nothing. He has previously said that the ps3 was a "vaste of everyone's time" ( or something like that), what's changed since then i wonder..
  • CH3BURASHKA - June 16, 2010 12:52 a.m.

I'm still playing it on the PC.
  • Cyberninja - June 16, 2010 12:49 a.m.

Sounds great i have the orange box and love portal so far
  • Conman93 - June 16, 2010 12:47 a.m.

PS3 and Wii will be overloaded by the time this year is over! Was this the 'big suprise' valve planned, or might something else be unveiled??
  • redmight - June 16, 2010 12:46 a.m.
