Dragon Age: Origins goes Ultimate with mammoth amount of DLC

Gamers who haven't yet had the pleasure of playing through developer Bioware's dark RPG Dragon Age have more incentive than ever to try it out. A new Ultimate Edition package includes the game and all of Bioware's nickel-and-diming DLC for a flat, discounted retail bundle.

According to the press release sent out from publisher EA today, the total cost of everything that Dragon Age early adopters have had to pay is an awkward $114. In addition to demonstrating how easy it is to ratchet up the cost of a game with a $40 sticker price, this shows just how odd the prices for DLC are.

Regardless, anyone who hasn’t picked up Dragon Age yet can get all the exact same content that everyone else paid $114 for, for only $60. The upcoming Ultimate Edition package includes the Dragon Age: Origins game, the Dragon Age: Origins Awakening expansion pack, and six pieces of premium DLC all included.

This is EA's way of getting as many people into the Dragon Age series as possible before the anticipated Dragon Age II launches next March. But then again, maybe you should all wait to buy Dragon Age II until after EA releases a substantially discounted bundle for that game as well. Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition will go on sale October 26, so basically no one should buy a copy of the game for the next 25 days.

It sure pays to not be an early adopter, these days. I bought Borderlands+DLC during a Steam sale for <$20, and am glad that I haven't bought DA:O yet. Between this and buggy releases like Civ V and Elemental, I'm in no rush to buy new games.

I bought this when it first released and have only just started to play. Very good but i was blown away by the amount of dlc there was for it. I would be better of selling my copy and buying it again.

This treasure trove deserves a better cover than that eyesore.

This is why I find myself holding back on alot of RPGs out there, because they seem guaranteed to get a 'game of the year' or 'ultimate' collection within a year of its release. Borderlands, Fable and Fallout are just some that have already done it, and I already suspect both Fallout: New Vegas and Dragon Age 2 will follow suit. and I dont really have to worry about missing out if there isnt any/enough DLC to warrant a special re-release of the game, as most titles will still be easily available for a good year after release.

As soon as I found out about EA's bullshit DLC policy, I held off on buying the game because I *KNEW* that this was coming. My faith has been rewarded.

I knew something like this would happen but guess what, I already bought all of the DLC. Still need to beat the Lelianna's Song, Golems of Amgarrack, and Darkspawn Chronicles. Have just need to play them. Damn you amazing fall line up.

Certainly gonna wait on the next one. I'm rather tired of being nickel and dimed.

  • Psylockerules - October 1, 2010 12:39 a.m.

great deal going on my Christmas list for sure...who am i kidding , im ordering it now. thank god i had mass effect 2 to keep me occupied while this came out. im sure a mass effect 2 ultimate edition is right around the corner...*sigh*

Holy crap, that's a REALLY good deal. I already bought all of the DLC, and it's a little disheartening to see the total added up. But I've put more time into that game than I have most other single player games, so I suppose I got my money's worth. Anybody who has even a small interest in Dragon Age NEEDS to buy this, the game is great.

First Uncharted 2 gets the GOTY treatment, then this? I'm glad I've waited due to being unemployed.

I'm excited! I love BioWare games but never got around to buying this one, but this seems like the perfect opportunity.
  • Gameguy94 - September 30, 2010 11:11 p.m.

COOL!!! I always wanted to play this game but for some obscure reason I never bought it...and I love western RPG's. What gives?
  • Cleanser247 - September 30, 2010 10:52 p.m.

I wish this came with it when I bought it! All I got was The Stone Prisoner, and Blood Dragon Armour for Dragon Age, and Mass Effect 2!
