Don't panic! Ridge Racer Unbounded video interview says the core series is safe

Ridge Racer fans have been more than a little concerned about the direction the series is heading with Bugbear's Ridge Racer Unbounded. But the game's producer, Joonas Laakso, says that - as a Ridge Racer fanboy himself - there's nothing to worry about. Check out our video interview and hear why, while you look at some rather sumptuous footage from the game.

Wait a minute, Ridge Racer was never an arcade game, dude. But yeah, I get what you mean. I just find these games incredibly boring this gen. They didn't do anything to make it more exciting, like Afterburner Climax. Now THAT is a great latter-day arcade game.

@GayforGilbert Believe it or not, there are. I'm one of them. I actually broke out Ridge Racer 6 about a month ago and played the heck out of it. Sometimes I like to play the older, simpler, truly arcade-style racing games that are pretty under-represented these days. It's pretty much been RR and Sega Rally Revo/Arcade this entire generation, whereas I'd love to see another Sega GT or Daytona game. Note that when I say "truly arcade" that doesn't include Burnout and games like that. Whereas in that context people use arcade to mean "not a sim" I mean the style of games that actually came from the arcade.

Looking pretty good so far. I appreciated Laakso's honesty and genuine approach.

Are there really RR fans in this day and age? Those games have not changed one iota in two generations.
