Dear Capcom: We are begging you to bring this amazing Okami statue to the US

We already showed off the awesome Japanese limited edition Okamiden package yesterday, but it seems Capcom isn’t done delivering awesome collectibles of GamesRadar’s favorite underappreciated wolf goddess. Sadly, much like the Okamiden collector’s edition, this gorgeous polystone statue looks like it may never be officially available outside of Japan.

Preorders for the Amaterasu statue just opened up on Capcom’s Japanese shopping site, The statue itself won’t be available until the end of September, but orders will be taken until that date (or until Capcom sells out of their planned production run). Amaterasu’s fairly sizable, to boot: she stands about 6.8 inches high, and her base is 9 inches long and 6 inches wide. She’s made from high-quality polystone and painted by hand.

Above: Let's just take a moment to soak in the awesome-ness.

However, the statue also retails for a true collector’s price – 15,400 yen, or about $175 USD. If you’re really interested in obtaining this beautiful piece of art, you can try a Japanese proxy shopping service like Crescent Shop, but be prepared to pay commission and shipping on top of the price. All the more reason to hope that Capcom USA will pick up a couple for retail – maybe we’d get a bit of a price break on the currently abysmal yen exchange rate.

Above: Yes, it's ridiculously expensive. Cool things are like that sometimes.

Above: Hand-painted details like this = severe, unbridled want.

Above: Note: If you put the statue on a shelf facing this direction,
people will wonder about you.

Uhm... no how about they keep that hideous statue wherever it is. That has got to be the ugliest rendition of Okami EVER. How can anyone look at that, lok at the amazing art in the game, look back and think thi looks good at ALL?

What in the heck is wrong with this thing? Sure, it's pretty from first glance, but heck, that is the worst anatomy of a dog I've seen in a long time. You can't even call it stylized, because there's a fine line between 'stylizing' something, which is 100% okay, and then going for a realistic style, and turning out terrible. Which they did. Heck, that's human muscles on that thing. And what is with the... fat wrinkles all down her legs? Also: her chest is... too large for the rest of her. And her legs waaay too long. Those muscles are all doing the wrong things for her pose. They just...threw on muscles all over the place. And hoped they were right, which they are wrong. A+ for effort. If the anatomy was correct this would be an amazing, beautiful thing. If it wasn't so expensive I may look into buying it. But oh boy, this thing is just all sorts of fail.

Whats with all the awesome Okami stuff I've seen lately (most of it Japan exclusive)? First the plushie, then the t-shirt, then the Okamiden collectors stuff, and now THIS! I would pay any price for this. Maybe Capcom are peeved that Okami only sold like 8 copies outside of Japan, and now they're getting revenge? Its too harsh! By the way, did Okami sell well in Japan by any chance?

Beautiful. Angry, powerful Amaterasu. None of this kiddie, chibi Okamiden stuff.
  • V13Dragongal - July 17, 2010 3:07 a.m.

I want it in the US, not Japan.....
  • Kisokuiki - July 17, 2010 1:51 a.m.

It's like Amaterasu, but... an old man? Maybe I need to go through the artbook again, but I don't remember her ever looking so wrinkly.

  • Imgema - July 17, 2010 1:36 a.m.

I like the flowers and grass detail. Because, you know, wherever Amaterasu walks, grass appear. Nice touch.
  • Cyberninja - July 17, 2010 1:26 a.m.

that is pure awesomness in motion.
  • Metroidhunter32 - July 17, 2010 1:16 a.m.

Curse you Japan and your exclusives. This thing will be going for hundreds on ebay in a couple months. Okami's fanbase is small but devoted.
