Catherine Zippo lighter tells world you're a grownup partial to games about men in underpants

Here's something strange: a Zippo lighter based on Atlus' cult-ready puzzler Catherine. Now, there's a lot of judgment in our society for those who feel the need to carry a lighter everywhere they go, but you won't find any of that here. Yes, cigarette-smoking has lost some of the cool cachet it held in the days of Don Draper, the French New Wave and Solid Snake; but maybe you need it for lighting pretty ladies' cigarillos, or you're a serial firebug or something. No judgment! But if you pull that thing, better ready to use it.

After all, a lighter is for sophistimicated adults –if you're going to go carrying one around with a picture of a cartoon broad on it, be ready to use it to light a fair few cigarettes, cigars, and miscellaneous Freudian tobacco-delivery mechanisms. You can be the guy who carries a lighter but doesn't smoke, and you can be the guy who carries a lighter mainly to represent for the sleeper hit of the quarter, but don't you dare be the guy who carries a lighter just cause it's collectible and doesn't even keep any fluid in it. The Catherine lighters will be available in two game-themed designs at the end of August, but you can preorder for the very sophisticated-adult-friendly price of $127 from CD Japan.

That price tag disgusts me. Glad Atlus isn't the company trying to sell it for an absurd price. Really liked Catherine and I like lighters; just not fake, overpriced ones.

    Im with you over priced

such a shame to :[ I collect Zippo's/use em on a daily basis but this price is just way to much :[ although they do have a 18k gold zippo for roughly $13,000 that I want someday :P

Yeah, way overpriced. I was a bit interested. I don't have any lighters and I want to get one 'just because' pretty much. But at that price? No thanks, I'd go for one with a nice design and not totally jacked up in price 'because they can' ~_~

If I put paper with C/Katherine around my lighter will it be worth at least $100?
  • EnigmaSpirit - August 3, 2011 11:07 p.m.

What if I just like certain songs, and want one to use at concerts? Also, what the hell with that price tag? I am no stranger to importing japanese stuff, but... just... wow.

@EnigmaSpirit: That is an excellent use of a lighter, yes. However, some acts may wonder why you are using a lighter in place of a cellphone and call you up onstage to make sure you're not a founding member of the group. If you can handle that.

This upsets me and I actually was planning on getting it haha, too steep for me

I'll stick with my free convenience store matches, thanks.

@bigwill I've got a Bic lighter and a sharpie in front of me, time to get rich.
  • ranzatsu - August 4, 2011 1:03 a.m.

@Draijan: At least what you want seems to be worth it. And honestly, walking around with this thing seems to be rather embarrassing than loving it. And God, the price is crazy. Chuck Norris would probably want one.

Oh sweet! I loved the game, and would like a lighter to showcase my love fo-- *Price: $127* OH HELL NAW.

BRB, just off to take up smoking.
  • grayguwapo - August 8, 2011 7:42 a.m.

$127! Reading it at first was kinda interesting and was hoping to snag me the Catherine version but when I got to the end with that price tag... forget it! The most I'd pay for this is $25...

I like it. I always love collectable stuff with my games. But I agree with those that say the price for this one is too high. I was willing to pay $60 dollars for the rare deck of Hyperdimension Neptunia playing cards (only 1000 produced & only available via Japanese pre-orders), I was lucky to find it. But its for sure what you would call a RARE item. This lighter is more like a scheme to squeeze more money out of the title, because it is popular at the moment.
