Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate confirmed for 3DS

E3 season is upon us, and that means megaton game announcements are going to start flowing like the mighty Mississippi for the next couple of weeks. The frenzy begins today with the official confirmation that the 3DS is getting a sequel or spinoff to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

Apart from the fact that this news has us jittering with excitement, we don't really know much beyond that. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was a profoundly awesome action game with some of the most ridiculously gorgeous environments we've ever seen in a game. Some people wrote it off as a hack-n-slash God of War clone, but those people missed out on one of the best action games of this generation.

Seen by MyNintendo on NeoGAF, a few details from Nintendo Power's cover story were leaked. According to the cover story, Mirror of Fate will include a deep combat system with controls reminiscent of the console version. The light/shadow system will also return, as will the unlockable combo system of the last game. We'll have to wait for the issue to hit newsstands before we learn more.

Hankering after more of the stories, news and possible truths that might shape this year's E3? Then head over to our E3 rumours compendium page. It's being updated constantly between now and the show.

Cool, although it is gonna be weird that their gonna make it similar to Lords of Shadows instead of Metroidvania, but heck, maybe they will keep it 2D and who knows. By the Name, "Mirror of Fate" you can tell the 2 Screens are gonna play a HUGE role here, but thats by judging the name.

Should I play Lords of Shadow before I get excited for this?

Good to get an official confirmation! altough speaking frankly, part of me is a tad disappointed that the game will follow the Lords of Shadow gameplay and combat system, and probably ditch the classic, beloved metroidvania style of the past portable Castlevanias. Still, this is jsut a personal preference, and regardless, it's awesome that we're getting a new portable Castlevania! And if it's still in 2D but with the light and shadow system and combat... Then this could be a very, very interesting proposal! can't wait to know more!

So, from what I understand, instead of getting LoS2 and a Metroidvania game, we get two LoS-esque games? If that's true, I'm a little disappointed as well since I was really looking forward to another 2D, but two Castlevania games is still TWO CASTLEVANIA GAMES!!

What the hell??? So they're not gonna release Lords of Shadow 2 on ps3/360? That's the worst gaming news I've heard all year, I freakin loved LoS on my ps3! Dammit Konami

...You haven't been following the news very well, do you? This "mirror of Faith" project is entirely different from Lords of Shadow 2 for consoles, which is rumored that will release not only for 360 and PS3, but for Wii U as well. The author of this article said "spin-off or sequel" most likely because he doesn't know anything for a fact, and doesn't want to guess incorrectly. But i am pretty sure that even if this is related to Lords of Shadow, it will be a spin-off or a peripheral story. And it doesn't mean this is LoS2 nor that the consoles won't get any. So calm down, will you? If anything, this mean even MORE Castlevania games, and when has that been a bad thing?

Are you effing kidding me? I loved Lords of Shadow, partly because of its big-screen, over the top grand scale. Ah well, hooray for 3DS owners, too bad for me. :(

Fantastic news. I loved Lords of Shadow and am always up for a good portable Castlevania.
