Capcom promises big Marvel vs Capcom news at Comic-Con 2011

Capcom has big, nay, fantastic, news for Marvel vs Capcom fans. Not now, mind you, but during its  Marvel vs Capcom panel on Saturday July 23 at Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego. According to the studio's listing on the Comic-Con schedule, game producer Ryota Nitsuma will be on hand to deliver the so-called 'fantastic' news, plus cheer on audience members fight it out for – wait for it – fantastic prizes.

“Fighting fans! Come to this panel to hear the fantastic news about this legendary fighting game franchise straight from producer Ryota Niitsuma. Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes peek as well as a chance to come onstage to showcase your fighting skills against each other for fantastic prizes. Followed by a Q&A session,” reads the panel's write-up.

Our money is on the announcement of DLC for MvC3 (a bold predication, we know). If a recent posting by notorious leaker Lupinko is to be believed, it might amount to 12 new characters including Phoenix Wright, Venom, MegaMan Starforce, Ghost Rider and Gambit. It could also be the reveal of a brand new MvC3 version or spin-off. Then again, judging by the fantastic wording, it may even concern the arrival of the Fantastic Four. We could go on, but we'll let you pick apart (or add to) our predictions below.

    @carlosflores: those too!
  • yetanotherCid304 - July 12, 2011 7:52 p.m.

mega man, frank west, doc ock, green goblin, ken, guile, m. bison, psylocke, daredevil, cable, gutsman, bass, sakura, and apoclolipse. Anounce any one of these characters, and i'll be happy.
  • cokelogic - July 12, 2011 10:31 a.m.

If "Fantastic" is for a Fantastic Four DLC, Capcom is made of fail. That's why Super Skrull is already in the game.
  • carlosflores - July 12, 2011 2:15 a.m.

Hopefully we get Some Newcomers Like Elektra/Ms.marvel/Carange/Dr.Stange
  • espenrio - July 12, 2011 1:35 a.m.

Is the fantastic news a pc port? Please? Capcom ended its pc fighting game boycott with Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition so can Marvel vs Capcom 3 PLEASE come to pc?
  • UsernameLoser - July 11, 2011 11:38 p.m.

MvC3 sucked ass, only 5 modes and all of them suck ass. SFIV/SSFIV/AE all had the same problem, and Capcom most likely wiped their asses with new mode ideas. That is the only reason I play the hell out of BlazBlue. The Fantastic Four won't be showing up because Super Skrull already has all of their powers.
  • ACGUY - July 11, 2011 11:22 p.m.

Mega Man should have been in from the start which is why i refused to buy this game and mooch it off my friends. If Mega Man makes it I will gladly forgive Capcom and buy all their shiznitch.
  • Darkhawk - July 11, 2011 10:46 p.m.

Super Marvel vs. Capcom 3? That's the reason I've been holding out.
  • Psylockerules - July 11, 2011 10:02 p.m.

hopefully add Psylocke, Ghostrider, Punisher, Daredevil, Gambit and Venom for marvel and Zack & Wiki, Leon Kennedy, Phoenix right, MEGAMAN, a couple o rival schools/Star gladiators and R.mika because shes batshit crazy!
  • Afrodisiac39 - July 11, 2011 10 p.m.

@crumbducky While I don't disagree entirely with some of your points, I think you may be overreacting a bit much. While it's true that Capcom is focusing very heavily on their fighting games right now, it's not like they aren't making/working on other games. Games like Okami and Onimusha and the like aren't getting sequels because they didn't sell well the first time around so why risk making a sequel? In the video game industry you have to make money and if you take a risk and fail, you'll really be suffering for it. In the end you need to make money and that's sort of the sad truth of the matter. Capcom isn't pure fighting, those are just getting the most coverage/attention
  • Junpeihermes - July 11, 2011 9:47 p.m.

they gonna say:'hey you all have enjoyed mvc3 then put your money on Super Mvc3 with ore characters, rebalacing and much more'and everyone will give jump of happiness with this mensage
  • crumbdunky - July 11, 2011 9:34 p.m.

Christ, if it's not bloody SF,SSF,SF3rdHD Online in a tu-tu and a billion other SF variants it's SFxTekken! Now what do Capcom offer? That's right ANOTHER fighting game update!! Great. Is thias about all we can expect from a publisher that used to release great games AS WELL AS great fighters but now farms out a lot of their better franchises to crap studios(the killed Grin doing this and now seem set on giving DMC to NT who barely ever did ANYTHING to suggest they can be in Kamiya's league with said game)or ruins Resi in house while, again, farming out the new shooter shoot off to a failed dev in confrontations /6!! This company USED to release games as great and varied as Okami, Resi1 through 4, DMC1 and 3, Dino Crisis, Onimusha, BS-the list is endless but now if it;'s not as fighter or MH you're basically screwed as if they DO manage a great game-say Zack and Wiki for example(best third party motion controls on the Wii)they totally ignore it exists!! I'm a bigger fan of non Capcom fighters, tbh,but always accept the great quality one of my fave dev houses put into SF games and the MVsC series too but it's getting to the point where I think even THEY know it's about the only genre they have a handle on for western markets and as a result it's all we get these days. Hell, their best IP invented this gen is Dead Rising and even that they managed to take backards by farming the sequel out to a western dev-I just wonder what goes on at Capcom when even promising titles like Dragon's Dogma appear lacklustre alongside their competition yet we never see a true Onimusha game, true sequel to Okami or a revamped Dino Crisis which people have clamoured for for ages and definitely a lot this gen where tech would make the games finally look like we imagined they should. We could them forget the regrettable DC3 too! Oh Capcom, what's gone wrong?
  • NightCrawler_358 - July 11, 2011 9:30 p.m.

Don't toy with me Capcom. I really hope theres a Nightcrawler announcement, but if I hear talk of a Super MvC3 I'll flip out in a bad way. Asura would be cool though!
  • Afrodisiac39 - July 11, 2011 9:14 p.m.

If there aren't a slew of new characters then this announcement won't really be that great. Fixes are nice and all but with all of their focus on AE it really does seem like MvC3 has been left to the side. I can't imagine who'll be added on the Marvel side since Marvel doesn't really seem to want any "less popular" characters to be added. And for those who say MODOK, he's been a villain to the avengers multiple times hence the only semi logical reason he's in it. It saddens me to think that Capcom will just be adding more characters from series already ingame. They said Megaman doesn't fit somehow but hell I'd settle for Battle Network MM at this point and Frank's zombies caused too much lag apparently so we'll see if they bring him. I'm still hopeful though. @pinkyboy Phoenix being useless would be a bad thing how exactly? =P
  • pinkyboy - July 11, 2011 8:42 p.m.

@StupidAwkwardLoser I always wanted a 1 player mode, but they'd have to change too much and rebalance characters. Phoenix would be useless ^^
  • chrisat928 - July 11, 2011 8:37 p.m.

    Super MvC3.
  • Nap1400 - July 11, 2011 8:29 p.m.

Make a version for the Wii? ....please? *hides in corner*
  • pinkyboy - July 11, 2011 8:21 p.m.

Seems like they're gonna announce the fantastic four for DLC, but apart from Mr. Fantastic, I can't see how they'll add anything to the game. Hoping they don't announce an ultimate edition either, or they release it as DLC, like with SSF4:AE. Anyways, hoping for Iceman, Sentry or Squirrelgirl :)
  • YuGiOhisbetterthanMagic - July 11, 2011 8:09 p.m.

Perhaps there going to fix the character cards so that Tron Bonne is no longer depicted as having similar intelligence to a cosmic being.
  • shawksta - July 11, 2011 7:53 p.m.

@ThicknSwift Most likely, Frank is in technically, but was unfinished and cancelled, its highly possible he'll come
