Battlefield 3 premium service may be coming says report

Rumors are circulating today that EA might be prepping to make an announcement regarding a premium subscription service for Battlefield 3 that might mimic Activision's success with Call of Duty Elite.

Battlefieldo is reporting information they say comes from a confidential but trustworthy source, it also came with a few other bits of information, including a March 2013 release window for an as-yet unnanounced fifth DLC pack after the "End Game" pack.

"Battlefield™ Premium will land you a number of content drops with unique in-game items not available anywhere else," says the report. "First out is the one-of-a-kind Premium knife and black dog tag, plus a set of soldier camos, weapon camos, dog tags and Assignments that will make sure you stand out and get more personalization options."

We currently don't know for sure whether the information is accurate, however they've pegged June 4th as the date for the announcement. So we'll find out at E3 whether this report will come true.

This doesn't surprise me. When activision is making so much money from the mindless hordes, it's hard not to try and imitate. I do believe however that BF always executes things far better than CoD. So as much as I miss the whole 'hey our stuff is free!' ideals BF once represented, i'll probably buy this, because the game is awesome, and Dice is one of the best devs today.

I agree. Fucking sucks that EA is going to start charging after all this time they have stated again and again that they won't charge for what CoD does.

I'm fine with this if it's ONLY for reskins and dogtags. The assignments are worrying me though, as when those are completed you get a new weapon. Hopefully those weapons are just reskins with the same stats as the default of that class or whatever.

I don't see anything wrong about charging for skins(though a monthly subscription fee seems overdone...) However, if items like this "Premium knife" end up being upgrade items that are outright better than other items I see major issues. Hopefully they're smart enough not to do that... but with the greed of EA anything is possible.

I will happily pay full price for the game, and a tenner for any reasonably sized DLC map packs, I may even pay to unlock a few things that I can't be bothered to do myself but if they think I am also going to pay some monthly/yearly subscription then they can kiss my shiny metal ass.
