Alice: Madness Returns interview

By now you’ve seen the teaser for Alice: Madness Returns. We were certain that American McGee’s next game was going to be the gore-soaked Little Red Riding Hood makeover he was shopping around GDC, but we’ll happily take another Alice in it’s stead. Immediately following the game’s announcement, we sat down in a mushroom-laced meeting room with RJ Berg (Alice: Madness Returns' executive producer and lead writer of the first Alice game), to chat about what’s new in Wonderland. Click play for the interview that has us even more intrigued (if that’s even possible) about American McGee's Alice sequel.

That was a really well done interview, Eric. I saw this game and it really interests me, but my second thought is "Man, this could be huge with kids who shop at Hot Topic."

As excited as I am about this game, even "liked" it on FB, I really hope that they remake the first and have it on Live/PSN. I've been so fascinated with this game that I picked up a painting of it while drunk at a Blockbuster. Love that painting!!

I am so so so excited for this game!! I will be buying it on day one as well, for sure. Time to play more of the first now :D (which anyone who's interested in this should really download, it's quite awesome!!)

The first game was awesome. I loved the dark, weird atmosphere. Totally psyched that they're making a sequel. The only thing that bugs me about this one is the plot. The whole point of the first one was Alice facing and overcoming her internal demons, and in the end it seemed she did. Now the plot of this one seems to be just whoops, actually she didn't and she's doing the exact same thing all over again! I'm hoping that's not the case, and it ends up being a bit more clever than that. we'll see.

Good interview, never played the first one but this game looks interesting.

I agree that the narration was awful and it got a little slow towards the end but some of the scenes (especially the ones without dialogue) were so striking and the overall mood and atmosphere was amazing.

RJ's one of those supercool behind-the-scenes guys who's been in the industry forever: http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,63361/

The best version of Alice in Wonderland (besides the book) is easily the Czech movie made in the 80s title "Alice".

Wonderfully sincere interview, I've always wanted to play the first game but never played it, this has me interested. I'm looking foward to next year and I hope this game does well.
