Activision teaser hints at Prototype 2 announcement

Is Activision announcing Prototype 2 at Spike's VGA awards this Saturday? After picking apart its latest enigmatic 'Murder Your Maker' teaser trailer, we're going to go out on a limb and say absolutely, positively, 99.98% yes.

Either Activision is unaware that video players come with a pause feature, or it isn't trying too hard to keep Alex Mercer's return a secret.  The teaser flashes words like 'New York [ground?] Zero' and 'infected', and a quick click around the 0:04 mark reveals a familiar set of black tendrils wreaking havoc in an urban downtown setting. Need more proof? Rearrange the letters in Murder Your Maker and you get 'A Duke Merry Rumor' or 'Marred Euro Murky'. Way to be subtle, Activision.

See if you can find more clues in the 'blink-and-you'll-miss-it' video below:

The official reveal is scheduled for Spike's VGA Awards on December 11, which leaves us with an even larger mystery: when did the Spike VGA Awards become the WikiLeaks of video game announcements?

this may be a new prototype but one thing, BETTER GRAPHICS not the same shitty graphics from hulk ultimate destruction

Ah, crap, just realised this is made by Activision. I hope they don't ruin this like they have done with all their other games. Prototype is my favourite sandbox game; if this becomes crap, then I don't know what I'll do to mess around. There just aren't any other games (apart from Infamous 2, which I dislike) which fill this genre.

let's relaunch 2009's flame wars: BUT INFAMOUS 2 WILL OWN prototype's ASS XD

@ 0.04 there is an image of what looks like the full body armour alex mercer has, doing what looks like a ground slam (move from fisrt game)

Oh god! This is most definitely Prototype 2. I loved the first one so much that I actually played through it almost 100%. FYI, I do not own a Ps3 or 360. Yep, totally buying this and going to play it at my cousin's house.
  • hester2 - December 6, 2010 8:51 p.m.

@Cyberninja Haha, yeah, hopefully it's been long enough that people realize the two are not competitors. The only similarity is they feature guys with special powers.
  • Cyberninja - December 6, 2010 8:34 p.m.

i just pray this doesnt turn into infamous 2 vs prototype 2 because i liked both and plan on purchasing both sequels

Just add drop-in coop, maybe tweak the graphic abit and it's alright for me. Also someone mentioned this idea where the main character from Infamous aims to take down Alex in the PS3 version but Alex battle Cole in the Xbox version. Wouldn't that be swell?

based on the blacked out lines on confidential papers, it may be Black ops 2! lmao captcha: quanard much why yes i do. :D
  • oryandymackie - December 6, 2010 8:09 p.m.

'Murder Your Maker'. Only takes three words to deduce a plot.
  • Frexerik - December 6, 2010 8:02 p.m.

SWEET!! Loved the old prototype! with updated graphics and new powers this could be freaking legen... wait for it.... DARY!!!
  • SonicX_89 - December 6, 2010 7:55 p.m.

I would like to see a new Prototype. The first game was a lot of fun to play, even though it could be frustrating to complete objectives sometimes.

I think the "VGA = Wikileaks" thing happened slowly over the years. For a while, it was only a new trailer or two, but as the network demanded higher ratings, more VGDs (video game developers) gave the viewers more bonus material, slowly making it into what you see today.
  • Felixthecat - December 6, 2010 7:51 p.m.

Have I just travelled back in time?
  • hester2 - December 6, 2010 7:51 p.m.

Awesome. The first was a good game with a few flaws. Fix these problems, polish it up, and add some variety, and this could be great.
