Team Fortress 2 first official Oculus Rift game

Team Fortress 2 is preparing for a whole new kind of hat: Valve revealed to Engadget today that the free-to-play shooter will be the first game with official Oculus Rift support. Virtual reality will hit the general population within a few weeks.

"This is a mode that everybody who has a Rift dev kit and access to Team Fortress 2 will be able to play, just on public and in the same servers that everybody else is playing in," Valve programmer Joe Ludwig said. Those players will just happen to be looking through the 3D, motion-tracking headset which was amply Kickstarted last year.

Only PC players will get to enjoy watching their own gibs fly around in 3D at first, but Ludwig said Mac and Linux will follow as quickly as possible. Hopefully it will take some of the sting off Doom 3: BFG Edition not being ready to support the development kits as announced.
