Lucasfilm is almost done deciding what Star Wars movie to make for 2020

Lucasfilm is very close to making its final decision on what Star Wars movie will come to theaters in 2020. The confirmed slate currently ends with Star Wars 9 in 2019, but Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told Vanity Fair that the company will make its final decision soon.

"We haven’t identified it yet, but yes," Kennedy said. "We have a couple of things right now that we’re circling, and we’ll make a decision between the two pretty shortly. It’s probably for 2020, and we will make a decision by June."

Star Wars 9 will conclude the new trilogy, so it's safe to assume that the 2020 movie will be another "Star Wars Story" like Rogue One and the Han Solo movie (which is scheduled to be released in 2018). Rumors have some of the strongest contenders as a standalone movie about Obi-Wan Kenobi (potentially enlisting Ewan McGregor to show what his character was up to between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope), a bounty hunter movie featuring Boba Fett (which was previously postponed), or a young-adult centered tragic romance.

Those are just rumors, of course. Star Wars 2020 could turn out to be anything. Maybe we'll finally get the movie adaptation of Star Wars: Republic Commando that we've always wanted! You're gone but not forgotten, Sev.
