Frank Darabont developing The Walking Dead!

Good news for anyone (like us) desperate for a screen version of Robert Kirkman's superb Walking Dead graphic novels - Frank Darabont is developing a TV version.

The even better news is that it's being funded by US cable network AMC, which already brings the world the brilliance of both Mad Men and Breaking Bad.

Darabont seems like a great choice to bring to life the story of a group of apocalypse survivors searching for a place to live in zombie-strewn world.

"This is not about zombies popping out of closets," AMC's Joel Stillman tells Variety. "This is a story about survival, and the dynamics of what happens when a group is forced to survive under these circumstances. The world in Walking Dead is portrayed in a smart, sophisticated way."

Darabont and producer Gale Anne Hurd apparently pitched the project to the network, which is now locking down a deal to get scripts written.

Fingers crossed, folks - this could be something amazing. Now all we have to worry about is the old Darabont curse striking and the project lingering in development hell....
