Fox is planning Lethal Weapon TV show

The recent trend for downsizing movie franchises for the small screen shows no sign of abating, with Deadline reporting that Fox is planning to turn yet another of its properties into a TV show. This week’s candidate, ripe for a remake? None other than Lethal Weapon.

Matt Miller is reportedly hard at work on the script, which is believed to be more of a straight drama rather than the knockabout tone of the movies, which starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Just how it will add to the popular film franchise remains to be seen, with no suggestion that any of the original cast or crew will be back on board.

The series will apparently see Texas cop and former Navy SEAL, Martin Riggs move to LA to start anew after the loss of his wife and baby. There he gets partnered with LAPD Detective, Roger Murtaugh who’s recently suffered a “minor” heart attack and must avoid any stress. Something tells us that’s not going to happen…

Minority Report was the network’s most recent attempt at bringing a big-screen smash to a TV audience, but while the show was fairly well received audiences eventually tailed off. Fox will be hoping that Riggs and Murtaugh will have a little more traction when this one eventually makes its way onto our screens.
