We’ve already seen Sean Penn and Josh Brolin squaring up to each other in Ruben Fleischer’s period noir The Gangster Squad , but a new image has finally given us an opportunity to see the titular unit assembled and ready for action.
The latest still shows Michael Pena, Ryan Gosling, Robert Patrick and Anthony Mackie all convened outside LA’s City Hall, while Brolin stalks away in the manner of a man on a mission.
The film tells the story of the creation of a special unit in the LAPD charged with bringing down violent gangster Mickey Cohen (Penn) in the ’40s. Brolin plays the leader of said unit, a former military man embittered by the decline of his fair city.
The story is taken from a series of LA Times articles written by journalist Paul Lieberman, with the script adapted by former LA copper turned novelist Will Beall.
Also starring Emma Stone, Nick Nolte, Giovanni Ribisi and Josh Pence, The Gangster Squad will come swaggering into UK cinemas on 9 November 2012.
