It's feared more than Blue Shells. It causes racers to sweat better than a well-placed Bob-omb ever could. It's Luigi's patented "death stare," and this iconic expression caused an internet meltdown when it debuted in Mario Kart a few years back. Now Lego is honoring it with a new Lego Luigi set that brings the disapproving glare home.
Revealed as part of the MAR10 Day celebrations, the display model is a 2,200-piece monster that puts Mario's brother at the wheel of the first large Mach 8 Kart set. It's built to match the scale of last year's Mario and Standard Kart set that's jostling for a position on our best Lego sets guide, so you can pose them on a shelf next to each other in an eternal race to the finish line. It's up for pre-order now at the official Lego store ahead of an April 1 release date.
This kit is more than a static statue, though. You can add flames to the exhaust to represent how fast Lego Luigi is tearing around the course, and the steering wheel actually turns the front tyres. Because those tyres spin, the Mach 8 model can roll along in little races across your floor. I mean, I wouldn't recommend a full grand-prix considering how fragile these kits often are, but there we are. It's nice to have options.

Much like Mario and Standard Kart, I'm impressed at how well this kit captures the look and feel of Luigi without wandering into the uncanny valley some large-scale Lego characters can (see the Lego Pikachu and Poke Ball kit for an example). Now we just need Princess Peach and Toad to complete our rapidly burgeoning lineup.
It wasn't the only plumber-adjacent toy news we got for Mario Day, of course; Lego is also teasing true Super Mario minifigures in 2027, as opposed to the larger digital figures it currently provides. Fans have been clamoring for these ever since the range launched, so I suspect there's a lot of "wa-hooo"s being yelled in the community at the moment.
