Pragmata has only been out in the wild for a couple of days now, but it's already proven itself as one of the best-rated Capcom games on Steam – and, now, as a new title that boasts over a million sales after just 48 hours of being available.
Capcom announces the massive milestone in a new official press release, first outlining what Pragmata is – a sci-fi action-adventure game that features protagonist Hugh and his adorable android companion Diana – before diving into what makes its quick success so incredible.
"Pragmata," as the company writes, was headed "primarily by a team of younger Capcom developers, who created an innovative gameplay experience."
They did so "by fusing action gameplay with puzzle elements set within a distinctive world ruled over by artificial intelligence," which admittedly sounds pretty cool in itself – but I'm more impressed by Capcom's next admission: Pragmata had an "absence of an established fan base or preexisting brand recognition," since, you know, it's the first of its kind (with no big series like Resident Evil or any preexisting extries to boot).
Article continues belowCapcom says it "implemented a range of marketing initiatives" that likely helped bolster the whole one million sales in two days thing, like its early playable demo and "multi-platform strategy" – something I think I've heard about a thousand times now from a thousand different companies (I'm looking at you, Xbox Game Studios)... but hey, if it works, it works. Capcom also cites its support for Nintendo Switch 2, which I'd agree with.
Releasing on handheld devices is never an L, if you ask me – Skyrim's launch on the Switch 2 not included, of course – and it does help widen Pragmata's audience.
All of this, Capcom says, enabled Pragmata "to achieve worldwide sales of over one million units in just two days despite being a completely new IP, marking a strong start for the title." That's maybe a bit of an understatement. As it stands now, it's definitely one of the biggest new games of 2026.
That and my beloved cozy games, Pokemon Pokopia and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, of course – although I might be a bit biased. Regardless, I can appreciate a good shooter in the mix… and Pragmata certainly seems to be just that.

After spending years with her head in various fantastical realms' clouds, Anna studied English Literature and then Medieval History at the University of Edinburgh, going on to specialize in narrative design and video game journalism as a writer. She has written for various publications since her postgraduate studies, including Dexerto, Fanbyte, GameSpot, IGN, PCGamesN, and more. When she's not frantically trying to form words into coherent sentences, she's probably daydreaming about becoming a fairy druid and befriending every animal or she's spending a thousand (more) hours traversing the Underdark in Baldur's Gate 3. If you spot her away from her PC, you'll always find Anna with a fantasy book, a handheld video game console of some sort, and a Tamagotchi or two on hand.
