Pragmata star David Menkin says the team had no idea how the game would be received, but is now receiving a ton of positive messages about the game.
Pragmata has been in development for a long time. In fact it was one of the first games announced when the PS5 was revealed back in 2020. But from the looks of things, the wait was worth it, as it has stood alongside Resident Evil Requiem and Monster Hunter Stories 3 to contribute to Capcom's absolutely massive 2026 lineup in a big way. Not only that, but Pragmata hit two million copies sold within the first month, and Capcom has confirmed that it will consider "developing it into a series."
Menkin, who plays Hugh Williams in the game, recently spoke to GamesRadar+ about his experiences during the making of Pragmata, and despite it being in development for half a decade, he only joined the project in 2024. Menkin says, "They gave us time, yeah, which is so unusual when it comes to games, because by the time you get to the voice, you're almost starting post production, and it just didn't feel like that. They wanted to get it done right."
Menkin adds, "When I finished, they sort of did say to me, you know, 'We don't know how this is going to be received, we have made what we wanted to make, and now we just need to figure out if the gamers like it.'"
But as we now know, it was received pretty well, and since it released back in April, Menkin has experienced that first hand. "Not just the reviews, the DMs that I get, and people here [at Summer Game Fest] when they find out who I played, like they just go, you know, 'Man, you made me cry, you made me think about my relationship with my father, with my daughter, with my niece, with my nephew.' That is amazing."
Menkin also says he's "just glad everybody wanted to be space dad."
