Star Trek Into Darkness (or Star Trek 2 , as you’ll probably end up calling it), has released a teaser trailer online, ahead of a longer trailer due on 17 December.
The focus is largely on Benedict Cumberbatch’s black-clad baddie, who can clearly give a menacing monologue with the best of them.
That’s not to say he’s not a physical villain, as he’s seen getting involved in tough fist-fights and orchestrating destruction on a larger scale.
We still don’t have a definite answer as to the character Cumberbatch is playing, although he can be spotted wearing a black Starfleet jersey, and he speaks of his “return”, so he clearly has history with the crew.
There's also a couple of glimpses of newcomer Alice Eve in there, and she looks to be sparking with Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk.
And that Christopher Nolan influence, evidenced in the Dark Knight Rises -like poster , is audible in the omnipresent Inception horn.
Check out the teaser trailer below:
Star Trek Into Darkness opens 17 May 2013.
