It's official: the Spider-Man solo movie will include characters from the MCU

Remember when Marvel and Sony finally struck a deal to include Spider-Man in the MCU? That was a glorious day for fans of the webslinger. Part of that arrangement means we'll meet this new version of the character in Captain America: Civil War, before he leaps off to headline a brand new series of Spider-Man films co-produced by both studios. It's a win-win for everybody.

And while we figured that his first solo outing might include other members of the MCU, it looks like that's now a certainty. “He is in the universe now," Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige tells EW, "and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth.” Feige was reluctant to shed light on which characters Spider-Man will share the screen with, we can take a guess based on what we know so far.

As for new characters? Well, again, that same argument applies. Marvel Studios already licensed off the rights to many of its comic book stalwarts, that's why Fox has dibs on the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool and Sony had Spider-Man and is still pushing forward with a Venom movie. So it seems like a long shot for us to get an 'A list' comic book character that Marvel still has the rights to showing up in a Sony film.

What do you think?

Directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, and Zendaya, the as yet untitled Spider-Man reboot will swing into cinemas on July 7, 2017.
