The pilot’s wonderful Tim Burton-meets-Amelie vibe survives into “Dummy”. A prototype car that runs on dandelions is the focus for a tale of corporate crime, when Ned resurrects a research scientist offed by a malevolent crash-test dummy. Turns out the deceased stumbled on a fatal flaw in the vehicle... Not that the case-of-the-week really matters – it’s all about the sizzling interplay between the leads, with Ned and Chuck’s contact-free relationship blossoming, and private eye Emerson Cod getting all the best lines.
