PSA: DC Universe Online is now free-to-play

As promised late last month, DC Universe Online, the super-powered MMO by the creators of Everquest, is now free to play on both the PlayStation 3 and the PC.

Besides giving those who already play the game the option to downgrade their account to a free one, it should also help populate the streets of Gotham and Metropolis with thousands of additional super heroes and villains to battle (or fight alongside).

The free to play option, which was revealed last month, gives several different options to players. Players who are interested in trying the game without spending a dime can do so, but they'll be missing out on some content. Those who have spent (or will spend) at least $5 are "Premium" members, and will have more benefits available to them including additional character slots, additional inventory slots, and higher cash limits. They still won't have access to all of the content, though; some will still have to be purchased in-game. Anyone who wants to either buy a lifetime subscription or spend $15 a month can do so to be granted "Legendary" membership, which grants access to all DLC packs at no cost, more than 15 character slots, more than 80 inventory slots, the ability to form unrestricted-sized leagues, and many other benefits.

If you're interested in checking the game out there has literally never been a better reason to jump in. The servers are going to be full of new players, the game has a few months worth of bug fixes and content updates, and it's absolutely free. Go save the world (or destroy it, whatever).
