Oldboy director making Stoker with Jodie Foster

Park Chan-wook

Oldboy director Park Chan-wook is set to make his first English-language movie with the help of Carey Mulligan and Jodie Foster.

Both ladies have been confirmed as the stars of Stoker , which follows an eccentric teenager whose estranged uncle returns to his family after the death of the teen girl’s father.

Written by Wentworth Prison Break Miller, the film is not thought to contain any big “genre element” that would act as bait for Park, but the dark tone of the film is definitely up his alley.

Though this all sounds fantastic, there is concern that foreign filmmakers coming to Hollywood tend to struggle. Just look at Hideo Nakata’s attempt with Ring 2. ..

That said, Park’s presence in Hollywood could pay off in dividends if he bumped into Steven Spielberg and gave him a piece of his mind about that Oldboy remake…
