Thanks to its incredible day-one sales, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has become the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever.

Spider-Man 2 swung onto PS5 last Friday, October 20, and fans flocked to join Peter Parker and Miles Morales on their new adventure in record numbers. According to Sony, in its first 24 hours on sale, the sequel managed to shift over 2.5 million copies worldwide, making it the fastest-selling game in PlayStation Studios' history.

"Insomniac Games holds itself to incredibly high standards when it comes to delivering engaging and innovative gameplay experiences," said Eric Lempel, SVP and head of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment. "Built from the ground up to take advantage of the unique features of PlayStation 5, the goal was to massively build off the action, storylines, and features from the first two games.

"With an epic storyline, two playable Super Heroes, a visually-stunning Marvel's New York, and so much more, this is a game you can get lost in for hours. On behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment, I want to say thank you to the fans - we truly hope you are enjoying your time playing as Peter and Miles in this amazing adventure."

Last year, Sony revealed that God of War Ragnarok was the fastest-selling first-party title at launch. The company didn't share the numbers for the first 24 hours, but in 7 days, it had sold 5.1 million. With Spider-Man 2 already achieving almost half that amount in one day alone, Peter and Miles look set to smash Kratos' week-one figures. Insomniac's first Spider-Man offering also broke records when it launched back in 2018, shifting over 3.3 million copies in three days.

Earlier today, it was revealed that Spider-Man 2 is the fourth biggest physical release of 2023 in the UK, behind The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, EA Sports FC, and Hogwarts Legacy.
